When in England at a fairly large conference, Colin Powell was asked by the Archbishop of Canterbury if our plans for Iraq were just an example of empire building by George Bush.

He answered by saying that, "Over the years, the United States has sent many of its fine young men and women into great peril to fight for freedom beyond our borders. The only amount of land we have ever asked for in return is enough to bury those that did not return."
It became very quiet in the room.

That is a Fact... and it doesn't need to be looked up on Snopes.com.... God Bless our Troops... and another thing... the Arab World would not Allow us to Bury our Dead on there Land... We are considered Infadels in there Countries.. we are also not allowed to Own land we can Only Rent it...

I Personally would not want to be laid to rest in any of these Countries... I would be Honored to be laid to Rest in Isrial though...

God Bless Our Troops and Coalition Forces!!!!!

THL --- I agree, but he had his chance, and declined to run.

I don't think he wants it ...

I'd hoped for years that he would run for President ... he'd sure get my support ... and, it was my understanding that HE was willing to run, but Mrs Powell is decidedly against him doing so ...

Great quote! Unfortunately he does not want to run, and it was his family that played a major role in his decision. He would make one GREAT President, IMHO.

Yeah, I've heard a lot about his family's fear for his life if he was President. Too many crazy racist out there. Too bad for our country. He would get votes from both the right and left, which would make it easy for things to get done in the Capitol. He would reduce so much bipartisan bickering which bogs down our government. Maybe Powell will change his mind.

Bipartisan bickering? That's the way government is supposed to work!! I didn't vote for the Hilda Beast!! She is diametrically opposed to most things I believe in, so why would I want my elected officials to make all lovie with her and vote for her initiatives!!?? Likewise I'm sure. I vote hard party line conservative, I don't think the more liberal districts in this country would appreciate their representatives siding with my elected officials... It works as designed. And I wouldn’t be surprised to see Powell run in 08. Personally, I would have liked to have seen Allen Keys win. If you saw any of the debates, he left all of the other Republican candidates in the dirt.
