Wondering if anyone has experienced anything similar. Opened my humidor this past weekend to rotate the aging cigars and grab something special to smoke. When I revealed the very bottom row every cigar appeared to be "sweating." The substance was clear and felt mildly oily at first, then sticky. Almost accused the wife of pouring 50/50 into the humidor. Any ideas???

Sounds like Nitro. Are you sure you weren't in the dynamite cabinet?

NICE ... the beginning of plume/blume.

The cigars are aging nicely, and the oils are coming to the surface of the wrapper.

Good job ... in keeping your humi at the proper 'relative humidity' ...

WHEW! Thanks Slim'! Thought for sure I'd ruined some nice smokes. Any thoughts on why only the bottom row is at this point? I only stack three cigars deep, and all cigars on that side were laid-up within two weeks ot each other.

It's like RICKAMAVEN tells me... "Rotate".

Not really ... as there could be a vast number of reasons.

Just keep rotating them ... and let the crystals form!

I notice that in my desktop there are certain spots where the conditions are perfect. Even small desktops can have different temprature and humidity readings less than 3 inches from the credo or hygro.

Thats why rotating is so important, especially if you have a lge humi!

Somebody please tell me why plume is a good thing. I've read that it's a sign of aging but is plume a good thing of itself?

efm,
Plume is the oils in tobacco that sweat out of a cigar when it is stored at optimal conditions. The oils dry and crystalize as they sweat out and cause an unmistakable white powdery coating. Some will argue to leave the crystals on the gar when you smoke it others say wipe it off.

Ultimatly plume is a sign of proper aging at proper temp and humidification.

Personally I leave it on!!!!! it yummy!!!!!

I wore a black shirt today and noticed what I think may have been a little plume on my sholders. Does this mean I'm aging well and am humidified properly?

Robby, you asked if you're properly humidified? My guess is you're thoroughly soused. That's okay, just don't touch the car keys.

As for your cloths, when those oily stains in the armpits of your shirt dry and crystalize into plume they you'll know you're well aged.

definitely sounds like what I like to refer to as "a cigar orgasm"

Don't wipe the ploom crystals off! They add an extra dimension to the smoking experience! Nice job!

Good call EFM! Friday is my drinking night. It used to be every night, but mamma put her foot down after she dried out. Dad's not dry yet, but not as soked as he used to be :-)
