As ridiculous as this sounds, this is actually in my opinion an excellent soliloquy describing why our actions in Iraq put us at no greater risk for terrorist attacks and in fact, again in my opinion “reduce our risk” of attack by reducing a large source of state sponsored terror. Many from this part of the world are raised to hate the US. We are referred to as “the great white Satan” which is an interesting generalization for those of us who are not white. Considering the fact that children are raised from birth to hate us based on idealistic and cultural differences, who could believe that by not invading their opinion would somehow be metamorphosed in to one of benign acceptance of our culture and our ways. This is a pollyannaish and dangerous point of view.
To believe this is to believe that a dangerous criminal, a serial killer for instance, who is caught will somehow cease and desist and begin doing charity work based on the fact that the Government didn’t prosecute him? Far from it, unfortunately there are sociopaths among us who would take your life as soon as give you the time of day. Taking pity on them would be viewed by them as “opportunity” for exploitation.
I said previously, “People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf." -George Orwell.
Don’t fool yourselves with your political persuasions and your hatred of George Bush. What our military is doing for us today is quite possibly averting catastrophes of unimaginable proportions… Don’t take this as Naïveté on my part that nothing could possibly happen to us now that we’re addressing Sadam. I live with the stark reality, as do we all that the world is not a safe place and I cherish each and every day.
If you oppose this action, consider your views, then consider them again. What is you motivation? Is it purely and truly humanitarian? Are you solely opposed based on your philosophical and moral belief systems? Or are you subconsciously forming geo-political opinions based on your domestic political belief system?
Careful consideration and introspection may lead to a c-change in your thinking on this conflict. I believe passionately that what is happening is in my and everyone’s best interest ultimately. The middle east, the world, and yes, your best interests too…
