Exploring the depths of my humidor, I came across a bargain bin cigar at least a year old. I'd like to know more about it. It is a Partagas Maduro, about 5"X48 ring. The label has a white background with gold edging. In the center is a gold C overlapped by what appears to be a gold R. Red banners run out from the center to the sides. These have 1876 in gold on them. Is this a cigar to be treasured and savored at the right moment? Or is it time to smoke it and open that space up?

HIGHLIGHTED BRAND

An escape
from the ordinary

HISTORY
The intertwined letter C and R that form the monogram on the lid of Cifuentes cigars stands for Roman Cifuentes, who first created Cifuentes in Havana Cuba over 100 years ago. Don Ramon created a cigar to carry his own name during his tenure as the cigar master of the Partagas factory in 1876. The special flavor of today's Cifuentes cigars echo the taste first developed by Don Pamon over 100 years ago.

PRODUCT
Made today in Jamaica, the secret flavor of Cifuentes cigars can be found in unique combination of tobaccos: three types of Piloto Cubano filled tobaccos grown in the Dominican Republic, are combined with a Bosuhki binder, then wrapped with the finest Connecticut shade wrapper, grown on our own farms. The result is a superior cigar with a deeply mellow flavor, unlike anything we have produced before.

The cigars are packed in boxes originally designed in 1876. Don Ramon's portrait can be found on the inside lid of each box.

Cifuentes cigars are available in six classic shapes, and two wrapper types, chosen to reflect the tastes of the most discerning smoker.

Thanks Low, I found the site. I get the impression this is one of what I call "mild ass Dominicans". Why the use of the "ass" word you say? Just has a derogatory sound IMO. Anybody smoke one? As I said, it's a maduro.

Xrun,

The only thing I'm confused about is that all the pics I found for the Cifuentes seem to say Partagas Cifuentes on the band. Haven't seen one that doesn't say that or has the 1876 on the band. Have you found that? If not, maybe look into it a little more B4 smoking it.

Just a footnote,
I believe that CiFuentes is no longer being made in Jamaica, nor anywhere else for that matter. The line has been dropped, I think. Someone correct me if I am wrong.

They've had this line of cigars on CBid before. I've picked up a five pack within the last couple years and think I still have a couple left.

Interestingly, I did a sample taste test of four cigars for General Cigar around the first of the year. The bands that they used to mark their "test blends" were these bands, put on backwards. That would suggest that this line is no longer produced.

Low, looks just like the picture at that link. Reckon I'll let it rest some more. At least until I see some ploom (plume?).

I like Partagas usually. but I've never found them to be a "bargain".
I put them in the same category as Macanudo (yeah..I like them too..and also never a bargain).

Looks like Lowman has the low down

It was a single buried in the bargain bin. Counter guy didn't know what to charge. So he charged me $2.
