I had the pleasure of smoking a Ashton VSG last night, and all I can say is WOW. I hadn't had a cigar in a while, so it pretty much kicked my @$$. Very good smoke, very peppery, and would recommend for any newbie out there. Just make sure you have a good size meal down before you smoke one.

Any cigar with a vaginal reference is fine in my book... Was it Sheena Easton that sang, "won't you come inside the sugar walls of my humidor?"

You guys crack me up!

A most excellent smoke that VSG. A prime example of what a sungrown should be. If you can find it, try the Fuente 858 Flor Fina sungrown. I have the 858 just a notch or three above the VSG. But to someone that craves chocolate M&Ms, that's kinda like saying "I prefer peanut to plain. Smoke either if you can get them.

I don't know what those prices are ... but I can guess!

I've seen box after box sell at that other auction site, you know ((( link edited by Slimboli ))) for $250+ a box ...

... and since they is not going to be a release this year (and maybe never again), it's only going to get worse.

cwilhelmi --- what do you want to bet, that even if you were willing to pay those prices ... they would tell you that they are out of stock!

ditto Slim. Actually, there are several sites that still list them and actually let you go through the motions of putting them in the shopping cart and checking out! Only to send you an email saying they are out of stock and if you want, they can add you to their mile long waiting list...

I am crossing my eyes, fingers, toes, and nose hairs hoping Fuente will have a 2003 release...

They won't ... it's a done deal.

I got it straight form Carlito himself, after I emailed him from the Cigar Family website.

He also posted it several times in the Clubhouse Room that there would not be a release in 2003 ...

cwilhelmi --- that's insane ... but someone will grab them up.

Sad but true... It's sad when you can't even pay retail!! Just about any other brand and I'd complain about having to pay retail!!

I guess you have to look at 'rare' cigars like you would fine old vintage wines ... :^(

... the less there is and the harder it is to find, the more you have to pay out the nose for it.

It's a little late to find the 858s at reasonable prices. I picked up a box a few months ago for $100 in the Midwest.

I still have a sealed box and 14 singles left, out of three boxes that I was able to score this year. I did have 15 singles left, but after reading this post all day ... I just had to have one.

Man ... I tell you ... for me, there isn't a better cigar made. It just does it for me, like no other cigar has been able to do ...

One was from Kentucky, the other two out of Florida (thanks to two CB brothers and two CF brothers, that kept up a diligent and relentless hunt for me) ... and I got them all for around $130 to $135 a box.

I feel that I was blessed this year ... in spite of the bad fortune I had with my job loss!

SLIM!! I'm so sorry to hear that! Man, hang in there... That affects so many people these days. I'm so hopeful that it gets better. I'm not the best Christian on this board, but I'll say a prayer for you and your family.

It's bad all over ... but especially out here in California (Bay Area, Silicon Valley, etc.) ... the unemployment rate has hit 6%, at last report, and more companies are falling each day.

The company I worked for went bankrupt at the end of October, last year ... and I've been out for over 5 months now. I've put out hundreds of applications and resumes ... and I haven't received ONE reply, to any of them.

Heck ... just as Charlie ... he'll tell you.

The VSG line is a$$ kickin IMHO. I love them. The 858 SGs I have are very nice but for me, I'll take the VSG over them anytime :)

LOL. I didn't say I disliked them. Just rate the VSG above them. Remember, the 858 SGs (if you can still find them) are a lot cheaper ($3.50 + tax) than the VSGs ($7.00 and up + tax), and for the price rate right there as best bang for the buck. I'll keep you in mind if I feel the urge to unload any or if I stumble across any at some of my shops.

abuccaneer --- you say, "Remember, the 858 SGs (if you can still find them) are a lot cheaper ($3.50 + tax)"...

... that's very interesting, since the official MSRP on a AF Flor Fina 858 Sun-Grown (at last years price) was $4.50, and they had a price increase at the beginning of this year!

I haven't been able to get the updated MSRP list yet, but it's going to be even higher ... so where did you find them at $3.50?

The 858 natural is the one that your pice quote was in line with ... at $3.50 ... so, if you did find them at $3.50 (before taxes) then the tobacconist that sold them to you didn't realize what they were (or thought that the were the naturals).
