I like coming home from lunch! Picked up a well packaged box from the front porch today. Hid it from all eyes and took it into the pantry area and hid while opening it like the time I got to lick the cake mix out of the bowl given to me by Grandma while my brothers were outside playing...

The contents were soft but cool indicating no heat got to this package either, but if I had waited to get the box from the porch after the afternoon sun hit...well...

Nice and creamy texture throughout and definitely not dry. Excellent flavor. Graham craker crust evenly distributed and thickening toward the edge. Nice. Crust not dry or falling apart upon scooping a chunk off with my fork. Nice job SteveS.

Goods: Creamy smooth texture and the best graham cracker crust I've tasted. Not dry in any way.

Not so Goods: No topping? Partial to whatever crust type xrun was using.

This was a tough review but someone had to do it!

On a scale of 1-10 cheesecakes, I give this one an 8.

xrun won by the skin of his topping and just a hair better crust.

OK next!

I give up!

I'm tellin' you...

Steve's cake arrived in a hot, mushy puddle...

I'm still gonna send out 'gars for the efforts, but maybe I need to bow out a judge since I'm 2for2...

If my packages would have stayed on the patio past 11am, I could have poured out the contents.

I got cheesecake. Haven't sampled it yet but soon.

Steve and Tim, before I do my official judging duties I just want you guys to know that I take bribes. Yes, I can be bought. I'm thinking an Opus or VSG, maybe a couple Bucaneros would go along way in influencing my decision. Just a thought.

I'd thought about that ... given the comments I saw about the competition before I sent mine out, I probably should have included a bribe or two ... LOL

Robby,

Do you like deer jerky? I make good deer jerky, if I do say so myself.

Sorry about highjacking your thread Steve!

Okay, I'm ready to release my final judgement. Since I haven't been offer any bribes (sob) I am compelled to cast an honest ballot.

In my official capacity as a professional cheesecake taster (an awesome responsibility but I'm up to the challange) my judgement is as follows (Drumroll please):

Tim's cheesecake: Worldclass, excellent, yummy.
Steves's cheesecake: Yummy, excellent, worldclass.

Mongo liked them both very much indeed. If I must pick one over t'other I'd have to give it to Tim's by a nose. Flavor seemed somehow just a little better and had a little thicker crust--mmmm crust.

Many thanks to both of youze guys for great cheesecake and for your hard work. Now I'll get busy on my part.

All right, here I go with my opinion. This was a very good cheesecake. I really enjoyed it.

I had to adjust the scoring that I used with Tim's cheesecake cause this one didn't have a topping (this did NOT negatively affect the outcome though). Scoring is broken into two categories, body: 60 points and crust: 40 points.

BODY:
Very consistent throughout, not dry like a lot of cheesecakes, a good consistency, very tasty indeed, but there was a slight sweet aftertaste to it. I gave this a 54.

CRUST:
As you know I am a crust man. I've always thought the crust was the most crucial aspect of a pie or cheesecake. I must say this was a good graham cracker crust. It was very consistent, moist but not too moist, easy to cut with a fork, maintained its form, and the taste was good. But, it didn't knock my socks off. I gave this crust a 35.

TOTAL SCORE: 89 out of 100

Tim's cheesecake was the very best home made cheesecake that I've ever tasted, and in the top 5 cheesecake that I've had anywhere.

Steve's cheesecake was very good. I would be proud to be able to make this one as well, but Tim's was better in my opinion.

Great job gentlemen! Both of you are to be commended! I'd be happy to taste any of your future works!!

Matt
