The Darling Fire (Indie band, reminds me of The Breeders, but slower pace...may not keep)
The Hold Steady. Where the hell have these guys been? Hints of early Springsteen, Zevon. Totally digging this, but I have quite a collection to plow through.
Telethon. Lousy name, good band. Tough to explain this band, but you want to be where you can focus on the lyrics. Good music, but lyrics matter with this band. Not your 80's 3 chord rock band.
New Sleater-Kinney. Fuzzy, synthy turn for these ladies. Grew on me after 3 listenings and a little sativa. Still, this album apparently cost them one of the better drummers in the biz, Janet Weiss, who left after some obligatory promo stuff. Seriously underrated drummer.
Janet Gardner. Former lead singer of 80's all-girl band Vixen, who was actually pretty damned good. I always thought that band was better than the sum of its parts (their gorgeous and talented guitar player being no small part of that), and Janet's voice just rated "pretty decent" overall, but she is older than I am, and has a second solo album out. Not much more depth to her voice, but it's better and the recent album is quite good.
And now, thanks to Palama, Roy Buchanan. Damn. I grew up in this guy's time, have been playing, singing and/or listening to music most of my life. How did I miss this guy? Thanks. |

Roy Buchanan.....the man that turned downed the Stones. A true old school gunslinger on the guitar that died a proper blueman's death in a jail cell under mysterious circumstances. His tone could reduce a grown man to tears. Had he lived longer, he was another one that would have relegated Eric Clapton to the dustbin of history. ^^ Damn. I noticed he died at a young age. I got to see Gary Moore open for Bob Seger on the Against the Wind Tour many, many eons ago. Amazing. Just amazing stuff. BS & TSBB were great, but Gary was out in the crowd, playing behind his head, etc. The skill level on the guy was astonishing, and he and Roy remind me a bit of each other. Gary lasted a bit longer, dying of a heart attack in Spain at age 58. |

Bump Fuzzy - Cover band in our park plaza for Woofstock. Apparently a fundraiser for local animal shelter. Ran the gamut of several decades of rock and a passable job across the board, but wheelhouse seemed to be in the more blues/rock tracks, think SRV, ZZ Top, etc. Love that name though |

I’ve had this recording for 10+ years but tonight is the first time I’m listening to it. Just couldn’t put it on knowing what would happen a few hours later. The all-star encore of “Sweet Home Chicago” on Disc 2 would be Stevie’s very last performance.

Linda Ronstadt - Heart Like a Wheel
The start of her “hit” years but I’d been a fan from her Stone Poneys days. Saw her in ‘70 at the Diamond Head Sunshine Crater Festival (...iirc, Little Feat was also there that year...) and then in ‘75 when she opened for the Eagles at the Waikiki Shell. Man, she was such a looker back then! Total shame about her Parkinson’s.

The new Tool album. Because, it's only been 13 years. Gonna have to listen to this one a few times. At a tidy 85-86 minutes.
Also Sons of Apollo. Great Odin's Raven, you know I'm not a huge fan of live albums (with some exceptions, like pretty much any Rush album, LZ Song Remains, The Who Live at Leeds...Cheap Trick at Bud...OK, so I like a few).
