Damn, it's good! Once again, just couldn't resist, and I needed a few sips for the dominos last night. I have another bottle, but it's the plastic screw top from '13, was trying to save that one for a bit longer. I may need to open a different bottle for the Zoom tonight. Maybe the Lot B. Youngest daughter started off the day with some APPle Pie Moonshine by mistake, I guess that counts, hehe. |

Well, I did not like the Small Batch nearly as much, haven't had a chance to sample much else. Will look at some of their other offerings, but the single barrel so far is hitting the sweet spot in price/flavor for me. |

https://fourrosesbourbon.com/our-recipes/ Took at a look at that, seems to only actually show 4 products produced. Have to try their yellow label and the small batch select. Thing about the small batch, there was a harsh note, one that the single barrel, with a higher proof, did not have. Anyway, I've so far settled on the 4 Roses Small Batch and Basil Haydens as my two current favorite bourbons, but need to keep sampling others. I haven't gotten around to sampling a lot of bourbons as sipping whiskeys (mostly stuck to scotches for that in the past), so I need to revisit some oldies like Makers. Was not super thrilled with the flavor of the Mitchener's I'd had recommended to me, which just goes to show how everyone's palates are different. Don't feel like chasing rare bourbons, that market is worse than the rare/limited cigar market! |

did you mean you preferred Single Barrel and Basil? You wrote you settled on small batch and basil.
If you didn't like Mitchners (sp?) it's possible you may prefer wheated bourbon over higher rye content.
yellow label is their inexpensive offering. It's OK in it's price range but you probably won't learn anything about bourbon... usually between $15 and 18 near me for a 750. I grab one here and there but it's not exciting to me. |

Next time you're looking for a Four Roses SB look for the OESV mashbill. It's a low rye offering that IMHO rivals many great Scotch's in complexity and uniqueness. My exact drink of choice tonite. In the high rye mashbills I love the OBSV and OBSO This may help understanding all this https://fourrosesbourbon.com/our-recipes/ |
