Costco had a Kirkland Small Batch for $19.99... it's Barton's 1792 and even says so on the bottle so I grabbed one. Never tried it.

Never had the Costco bottle (yet) but the 1792 bottle I have had a few and enjoy them. It's a daily sipper for me. One of the few that I rotate between.

I'm always intrigued by those who sip the Lagavulin.........is it the medicinal iodine note that draws you or that heavy peat and smoke?I,ve never been able to warm up to any of those qualities but I'm all ears if you explain to me how theyr're enjoyed.I'm more of a bourbon guy who enjoys an occasional scotch,speysides/highlands with my favorite being Glenfarclas 15 followed closely followed by Macallan 18

With you there Braddah Ron! But, I have a bottle of Lag 16 for a special heavenly birthday toast for a great friend of mine that suddenly passed away 8 years ago. I’mma not really a fan of it but think Kevin would have loved it.

On the Mac 18 - when our daughter let us know she was pregnant with our first grandchild, I immediately congratulated our (future) SIL, turned to took at the bar and since it was the best brown liquor there, ordered a shot of the 18. Son and (future) SIL ordered one too. The 18 was, and still is, the best Scotch I’ve ever had. Even thought about buying a bottle but at the time, $250 for a bottle was not gonna happen. Don’t have a clue how much it costs now but fo’ sure w-a-y more than what it was 9 years ago.

I like Lagavulin16 and Laphroaig 15, but I have to be in the mood for that peat/smoke flavor.

I've never been able to find that mood. That being said the Islays are the only whiskies of the world that I've found no enjoyment in...........and I as a whisky lover wish that wasn't the case.Oh that and one of my younger coworkers came by one day with a bottle of "PICKLE" whiskey........at least I brought the Lagavulin to my lips in effort.

I got that... Anth never had four roses, so his first pour was the single barrel.

My last pour was RRSB.

I think Four Roses is the most innovative (is that the word I want?) bourbon distiller out there.

Living in Northern NC, I have 3 VA ABCs within 30 minutes of my home. VA is dropping some exclusive barrel picks on Saturday morning. Limit is 1 bottle purchase per store. You don't know which selection each store received until late Friday evening. Hoping to snag a 1792 full proof single barrel (125 proof), a 1792 single barrel bottled in bond, or an Old Elk 9 year wheater (120 proof).

I've been holding a bottle of this for a couple of years, not really sure if I can handle it neat at 115 proof, but I think it's time I give it a try. Any suggestions? Do you fellas drink this neat, on the rocks or with a splash of something to tame it a bit?

Here's what I kinda, sorta normally do:

- For anything new, my first pour is always neat. I take a good sniff then a sip, make some mental notes and then add a couple drops of water. Swish it around, another sniff and then take a sip. More mental notes. Lastly, pour the rest over a large ice sphere, sniff and sip. Last set of mental notes. By then I'll have a good idea of how I would prefer to drink it.

- The exceptions to the above: when I'mma outside in my garage and the temps are above 75 and / or the humidity is high and you can feel it in the air, I drink almost everything with a large ice sphere, regardless of proof. Much more comfortable, at least for me. If the temps drop near or below 70 and / or the winds are blowing (...sweatshirt and tube socks time!...), I'll drink it neat with / without a couple of drops of water.

But, that's just me, of course, ymmv.

Bottom line: to paraphrase the old cigar saying, "Drink what you like, like what / how you drink."

This bottle won't last long either, have you tried any of their other bottles? How do they compare if you have

That’s the only one I’ve tried. Went back the next year and TW was out of the uncut / unfiltered one. Ended up getting some other htf (…at least in Hawaii…) stuff instead.

Lagavulin has no medicinal flavors, it is dense smoke! You might be thinking of laphroaig which I personally think is revolting, like rotten cough syrup

Looking for some recommendations on good bourbon under 60$???
Never liked bulleit. I do like makers woodfard 4 roses wathens (recommend the wathens if you’ve not tried it) Did not like angels envy.

Also looking to try a rye whiskey. Again under 60$. Explain to me what rye whiskey is like????? More like bold bourbon? More like a crown royal? More like Irish whiskey??????

I like all those things but I like bourbon a lot more than those

Help me out fellas

Bourbons under 60: 4 roses single barrel (35-45$), early times bottled in bond (25-30$), Eagle rare (55$, but really hard to find)

Not much of a rye guy myself, but I’ve heard Pendleton 1910 Rye is really good from a friend.
