4248 - Dunhill Ready Rubbed in a small sandblasted billiard this AM

4249 - CAO Cherry in a small clay while compiling Jake's bomb list - thanks, buddy! This is a nice change of pace, I don't smoke a ton of aromatics. This is really a quality flavored tobacco. The more of a dark, tart cherry than the usual super sweet stuff you usually get from a cherry blend.
4170. Author: Jakethesnake86Date: Thu, 3/11/2021, 2:04AM EST
I gotta agree. I almost asked if you smoked any or not. Figured I’d just send you some. I like it just sometimes

I maybe sent you some eileens dream. It’s a good aromatic.

4250 davidoff flake medalion. Dig it. I’ll probably get another can of this at some point
4171. Author: Jakethesnake86Date: Thu, 3/11/2021, 2:06AM EST
^ in my old burn up ugly cob that smokes so dang well I can’t throw it out lol
4172. Author: jpkulpDate: Thu, 3/11/2021, 8:04AM EST
^ smoke that **** till it won't hold tobacco anymore!

Five Brothers in a smooth, stout pot shaped Dublin.

It's a very fine cut shag tobacco with "birdseye" stem pieces mixed in. Never seen that before. Nutty and mild flavor with a good nic hit. Waking me up this morning! Cheers, Jake!
4173. Author: Jakethesnake86Date: Thu, 3/11/2021, 7:10PM EST
^ I like the strength of that stuff. It’s smooth too. Kinda dig it on occasion. I mix it with some of the other stuff at times. If you have a blend that doesn’t want to burn well. It usually gets things going also. It’s stupid cheap on cbid
4174. Author: Jakethesnake86Date: Sun, 3/14/2021, 12:10AM EST
4250 sutliff black Kathy Gift from jp kulp. I dig it. Super smooth. In a cob.
4175. Author: jpkulpDate: Sun, 3/14/2021, 12:31AM EST
^^^ nice, glad you like it, Jake. I try to have a straight black Cavendish tobacco on hand at all times. First blend I smoked was Lane BCA (Black Cavendish Aromatic). I don't smoke it often, but there's nothing like it when you want something smooth and easy going.
4176. Author: Jakethesnake86Date: Sun, 3/14/2021, 1:03AM EST
You have schooled me a bit on some pipe tobacco sir!^^^
I tried to buy some frog Morton a year back or so. Pretty stoked you sent that. I almost don’t wanna open it. Might rest that whole can for a little while. Super cool gift man
👍 I didn’t even care which blend it was. Just wanted some. Now a have a can. Preciate!
4177. Author: Jakethesnake86Date: Sun, 3/14/2021, 1:04AM EST
All the goodies I appreciate it’s just funny I specifically hunted for that blend.
4178. Author: jpkulpDate: Sun, 3/14/2021, 8:12AM EST
^ pop that tin, if you like it and want to age, I'll send you another.

Number correction

4274 - My # 2 Black mix in a small briar

I've found Lane BCA to be very smooth, but not tasty so I mix it with Smokers Pride and I get a tastier smooth smoke- that's my # 2.
4180. Author: Jakethesnake86Date: Sun, 3/14/2021, 8:26PM EST
4253 should be then next number. Our count got waaaay crazy. Takes scrolling back a couple pages but I believe that’s where we should be
4181. Author: tonygrazDate: Mon, 3/15/2021, 8:25PM EST
Try again jake from post 4161 on - I give up.

???? - My mix #2 in a small briar

Jfkulp you do not start the smoke number with the post number - I know it's hard to figure out

4182. Author: Jakethesnake86Date: Mon, 3/15/2021, 10:00PM EST
4254^^^^^. I think lol
4183. Author: jpkulpDate: Tue, 3/16/2021, 7:33AM EST
I know I f##ck'd it all up.

4255 (maybe) Davidoff Flake Medallion in a small billiard with bamboo shank. I've had a couple similar tobaccos - PS Bullseye Flake and Comoy #4 - I think this is better than either! Gonna have to pick some of this up. Thanks for the sample, Jake!

4184. Author: Jakethesnake86Date: Tue, 3/16/2021, 8:48AM EST
^^ yessir I thought it was good too. I got it here at cbid pretty reasonable
4185. Author: jpkulpDate: Wed, 3/17/2021, 7:19AM EST
4256 - Dark Burley with PS Cube Cut. Had a sample of straight dark Burley, tasted like smoking unsweetened dark chocolate. Mixed in some cube cut to add some sweetness. Been sitting in a jar for 5 or 6 months. Not bad.

4257 - My # 2 mix in a cob
4187. Author: jpkulpDate: Wed, 3/17/2021, 12:43PM EST
4258 - KBV Robo Burlesque, it's a Burley base with chocolate reminds me if a high end Cater Hall - tasty
4188. Author: jpkulpDate: Wed, 3/17/2021, 7:46PM EST
4259 - had a bowl of Carter Hall to test my earlier comparison. The two blends have a very similar flavor profile. Cater Hall is much milder however, Robo Burlesque is kind of an amped up version.
4189. Author: Jakethesnake86Date: Wed, 3/17/2021, 8:12PM EST
Sounds like a winner jp
4190. Author: jpkulpDate: Thu, 3/18/2021, 7:21AM EST
4260 - SPC Mississippi River SR. Jake sent me one of the corners of a block of this pressed tobacco. I sliced it up into a cube cut for ease of loading without completely rubbing it out. This is good stuff! Really enjoying this first bowl. I'm always afraid English blends are going to be too Latakia heavy. Not the case with this one. the Latakia is there providing some sweet smokiness, but it plays a supporting role. It the complex blend of Virginia, Perique, Orientals that really take a front seat.

Thanks for sharing this with me, Jake!

^ school me jp. What’s the charcoal do??
4195. Author: jpkulpDate: Sat, 3/20/2021, 9:12AM EST
Pulls moisture out of the smoke. I find that it helps a lot with certain aromatics. It depends on the blend - some are too light and you lose the flavor. Others need it and are less muddled, more nuanced when smoked in a filter pipe. I came to this realization after a conversation with an American pipemaker who lived in France for a while. Filter pipes are much more common in Europe and so are the type of heavy aromatics that benefit from them. He said after he realized that he went back and tried a bunch of blends that he'd completely written off and found that he actually enjoyed them in a filtered pipe. Eileen's Dream is made by Scandinavian Tobacco Group - it's a Danish style aromatic. Americans tend to try and let this type of blend dry out some. In Europe, they just use a filter pipe.

I've also found that I frequently get some tongue bite from blends that have a high proportion of Bright VA, like PS Luxury Twist Flake - filter takes that away.
