Monte Media Corona.....very nice cigar....so is the issue with cuban cigars because of the issues in Cuba?
there is nothing available, and if it is, its tre expensive

It is purely due to shipping/supply chain/lack of petroleum issues, preceded by covid, in a setting of increased demand per Habanos, S.A. and the Australian vendor I have used.

On the plus side, the vendor says that 2018-19 were very good years for quality Havanas.

Once upon a time Hong Kong had some pretty good pricing.

I seem to notice that poorly rolled CCs are the smaller RG ones. Then again, I don’t have or smoke as many Cubans as many here.

Apprentices roll the smaller cigar except for No. 1 and No. 2 premium sizes (often mis-referred to as lanceros).

Haha! That PDC was from one of those, now legendary, crgcpro / Bart CC splits. I got 5 of them and Daniel (…my nephew…) and I smoked two in 2014. I did kinda forget about them but “found” them on Friday. Figured a cigar of that size would be good for our herf. It was. Iirc, I jumped into Split #3 after sitting / missing out on the first two. The split definitely broadened my horizons.

Lightly toasted tobacco with an unmistakable, yet mild sweetness that was present the entire time, increasing continuously until the end. Smoked it down to about 1/3 inch with a hemostat. One of the very best cigars I have smoked in a couple months. Thanks Bro.

One of my top ten- when I can get them from the Caribean or Australia.

Bought all 4 boxes of 10 of Churchills for $80 each from Hong Kong one night about 10-15 years ago. He had mailed me what must have been that day's brand new box code list in the middle of the night while I couldn't sleep. Whole transaction from receipt of list to purchase was like 5 minutes!

Also got a SE box or three- varnished, hinged, clasp, engraved, numbered and bundled-25 count- skinny MdO boxes from Hong Kong, but don't remember which ones.

I truly enjoy skinny cigars 38rg and smaller.

I've got one more box of MdO4s from 2015 that I haven't broken into yet. Some of the best cigars I have ever had, but I'm down to smoking once a month tops and the going rate at Bond Roberts gives me pause. I can't believe people think these are $25 cigars now.

I remember them and another box from 2008, both from Australia. Those were real good years! How did it hold up? What did it taste like? Any early mocha/chocolate whiffs like some of the other Montes (#1, Joyitas, Edmundo, etc.)?

I thought I made great money when I sold off my collection- with both appreciation and year over year hefty price increases from 5-10%- but today's prices are just crazy! I can't imagine what all I had (85+ boxes) would be worth today had i hung on to most of them.

The single 2008 Monte E.L. I still have left is just worth too much for me to smoke guilt-free because I last saw them going for like over $3,500 at auction in London quite a while back- just for a ten-count box. I think I am afraid to smoke it out of fear of disappointment. LOL.... No, not really. I know it will be a great smoke b/c of the way E.L. are blended differently with extra ligero and such. Three were smoked over the last 5 years and they were each divine. And, I have the same down-to the-last scenario with a Cohiba Pyramid E.L. 2006 and two 2008 Cohiba Siglo VI. The single E.L might be worth $400+ in a full 10-box.

BUT, as soon as the doctor says I can smoke a single celebratory cigar (which might be at my appointment this afternoon or not!) with Corey Sellers who is in town this afternoon. Just Can't decide which one to go with.

Or, I might just enjoy a more typical Havanah instead- and package all my rare/special ones up for trade for a few fivers or something per cigar. That way someone can get rid of what they don't like that I do or they just have a load of.

Just thinking out load though...

Rob A has always been more expensive, but has always both curated and recommended very well for his customers. Can't imagine his prices right now, though.

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Still “twangy” but didn’t notice any mocha / chocolate…then again, I have a terrible palate so hints of it mighta been there but I missed it. Our son came over for his usual Sunday dinner and brought a big bag of One-Ton Chips so it was a very good night. Herfing

Planning on enjoying my first cigar since I stopped for surgery like 8 weeks ago. Probably going to be a HdM Petit Robustos or a Quintero Robustos (just to see if it is even worth smoking). On the other hand, this would not be the time to try a potentially unpleasant cigar and I should go with the HdM or something else special!

I bought some then machine made Quintero about ten years ago in cellophane and they were already 10 years old. Best floating-on a-raft-in-the-pool-cigars- ever, although the taste definitely differs from other Cubans from more established, traditional tobacco growing regions and farmsHerfing
