Everytime I go on Cbid, at least half of all the auctions that day must be Gurkha cigars and they always go for a reasonable price. Now I haven't done my homework on Gurkha and with the avalanche of different blends they have it's tough to figure out which blends are bad and which are good. There must be someone that can help me sift through all the Gurkha crap for the few Gurkha cigars you would recommend? Or is my bidding time better spent somewhere else?

No. There are none anybody can recommend.

Main problem being gurkhas aren't anything more than packaging. The cigars within aren't going to be the same cigars across the same model line. They'll just be cheap poorly made cigars from who knows where, and they'll get the same ring band and box art.

I had a Gurkha back in the day from a cheap sampler and didn't hate it. It burned halfway decently too. Saw a fiver on here, won for under $5 and when they got here, compared to another and it wasn't even similar visually or by touch. Didn't smoke the same either. Cut em both open, different colors and textures from each other on the inside as well.

If I told you I liked a Gurkha xxxxx and you went and bought one, no guarantee it would be like the one I liked.

So, no. If you want to smoke gurkhas you're going to just have to buy a bunch n sift through em. Or, just dont.

The old Blue Steels were very good, but they changed too and the quality fell off drastically. Then there was the Microbatch Lancero, which was really good, because it was actually just an AJ Fernandez stick. This were a limited release, so good luck on that. I don't bother with the brand anymore, they just aren't a good value, and you never know, once you found a good line, when they will "cost optimize" the blend so the bundles you are getting are nothing like what was before. My advice would be not to stock up.

If they look interesting to you. give 'em a try. Only you can decide if a cigar is for you or not.
INMHO, most Gurkhas aren't worth the coin. In fact, one of the very worst cigars I ever had was a Gurkha Vintage.
However, I usually have a few Legend Aniversarios and Centurians in my humi.

So, try 'em. If you like 'em, great. If you don't, at least they didn't cost too much.

Hahaha yep guess from all the advice I won't be stocking up on Gurkhas anytime soon. I think I'll stick with my Puro authenticos

There are only two good Gurkas around...

There was ONE. I smoked it Jan. 1st 2005.

A few weeks ago I had a 7 year old Titan (or was it Titan II?....not certain.) It was very, very good. The day I smoked my last TPB-1 was a little sad. That said, I haven't had a Gurkha bought/made in the last 6 years that I enjoyed. Back in the day, there were others that weren't terrible, but they were mixed in with a lot that were. Like looking for a nickle in a friggin minefield.

I am part of a special tactics unit at work and we train at least once a month. We end every training with cigars and rotate who brings them. For some horrible reason Gurkhas are very popular with about a third of my team. They are constantly trying to convince the rest of us that gurkha makes good cigars. A a result I have smoked a lot of Gurkha and they have mostly been horrible.

There are a few that I have tried that were really great. I mean really really great, but I am not sure they would be good now based on consistency. For the record they were beauty and European selection maduro.

To be fair I have had plenty of cigars from other makers that were also bad. If you want to smoke some Gurkha cigars and you can get them cheap enough go for it. If you want a safe bet go for something else.

Think of it like the lottery you spend a few bucks on tickets knowing you probably will not win but IF you do get lucky it makes for a nice surprise.

ON the other hand you can get Arturo Fuente Curly Head Natural Lonsdale for $2 a piece and they are better than most gurkhas I have had. Not to mention they are very consistand

Does anyone remember the gurkha aged maduro torpedo? That was one fine cigar. had my last one around 2006 i think. Nowadays I may smoke a khan or an anniversario perfecto.

Had the 125 th anniversary.....it was nice but not impressive enough to repeat or to explore brand further.

Answer: Nope, as far as I can tell. Offered a number of them over the years golfing, parties, etc. and never had a one I would buy outright. They range from bad to not-so-good. On occasion, I will buy a sample that has one in it, buy I just discount the sampler package by one cigar (if it is 8 for $10 with one Gurkha, I treat it as 7 for $10 and decide if want to buy) If I do get it I put the Gurkha in the mooch box.
