Well....I'm not a racist, but I also LOVE it when white guys make burritos. I grew up in the upper midwest a long, long way from anyone for whom tortillas and beans were staples. So, the burritos I got were generally untouched by beans and rice....and that's the way I still like 'em....meat, cheese, sour cream, picante....more meat and more cheese....and some green sauce...hold the beans....hold the rice I'm not a racist, but do you like the California burrito? Carne asada, cheese, Pico de gallo, French fries... |

That sounds ok...can I have sour cream on it, too....but, I thought MACS said they put fish in their tortilla stuff out there |

They are delicious. You get a deep fried, breaded fish filet at Rubio's with cabbage and chipotle white sauce. Wahoo's the filets are not breaded or fried, but grilled. |

Oh, and the carne asada burritos at the hole in the wall joints are meat, guacamole, and pico. |

Speaking of Baja, it's been many years, but baja fresh actually used to kill the fish taco... they're way bigger now so probably not as good... i didn't like rubios tacos... don't they deep fry their filets? I like deep fried, but not in a taco... and I'm not a racist or anything.... |

I'd never tried fish tacos. The thought of them repulsed me. (Disclaimer: Having lived in So Louisiana for all but, 12 years of my life I've eaten many times my share of fresh fish)
Then the topic of fish tacos came up on the Deep Sea Fishing trip thread. Shortly after we started planning the trip, the wife & I went on a cruise. One of the eatery's on the ship had fish tacos, so I tried some. Best tacos I'd ever eaten.
Then last weekend I flew out to California (first time there) and after we spent all day fishing Sunday, Al pan fried rock fish and ling cod. Tossed some fish in a flour tortilla along with some sauces Joel's wife sent. One of the best meals I've ever eaten. They were da bomb.
The key to making them is the fish. It needs to be firm fleshed. I tried making them with fried catfish day before yesterday. They sucked.
BTW, I'm still waiting on some recipes Joel!!! |

Its hard to understand how that could've happened. Tommy's Joynt is an institution. On my Dads advice, we would take the bus to a Niner game, then on the return, we'd stop in there and have a turkey dinner and some beers afterwards. |

delta1 wrote: .... Tommy's Joynt in San Francisco ... stopped in when I was up there, stood in line, and was disappointed... Tommy's Joynt is extremely good for some things, somewhat ordinary for others ... my recommendation at TJ is to try the Buffalo Stew ... unless you're hoping to find a lot of carrots and potatos in the bowl, this is some damn fine eating ... you'll find only tender chunks of meat swimming in a rich sauce ... my first and lasting impression is that I have a better understanding of how the plains Indians got so pissed off at the whites who aimlessly slaughtered the buffalo |
