A week after the storm we didn’t hear from any family so I flew down loaded up with supplies. Saw the devastation firsthand and it was heartbreaking. Went for my scheduled flight off the island on October 1st to see many people stranded and scattered all over the airport and being told my flight on the 1st was cancelled and to come back on the 15th as it was the earliest I could get out. Insane! No power and being told in September you might get it by March sounded ridiculous yet at this rate it might be longer. Losing everything and then standing in lines at the bank for hours and being toldwe can only give you $100 to then get in lines at the gas pumps for hours to buy gas to get to the grocery store to buy limited groceries before it gets dark and the curfew kicks in because of the lack of power to then wake up and repeat the cycle all over again is ridiculous.
No generators on the island, no shipping to the stores, companies selling on Amazon that won’t ship there, scoundrels on eBay charging 4x the price for generators. I gave up looking because even if you can find one the criminal element down there was taken over and you’re at risk of people stealing yours. |

^ yup.
Our friend had cold juice, and a home made ham and mayo sammich this morning and a lamp last night. Running the generator overnight with the fridge and a light until the go to bed and replace the light with a fan. Freeze non potable water at night move it to fridge in the morning. Keeps fridge cold all day.
We made someone happy for the moment but their normal will change. |

Drafter kidding aside my wife and I were talking about this tonight. What was moving mountains to them was a blink of the eye to me. I’m not rich but won’t miss the money much. It was out of reach to them. But it’s a fine line between blink of an eye and impossible. My turn very well may come. I hope someone helps me out. |

yep...never thought I'd see the day when America turns its back on fellow Americans...wait...didn't some people suggest that we shouldn't rebuild New Orleans after Katrina...and that the shelters were an improvement over the homes that were destroyed? It looks like PR will need a lot of help from private sources... |

Puerto Rico's power infrastructure was horrid before the hurricane. So how is this anyone's fault but their own and mother nature's?
Nobody turned their back. Help was sent. It wasn't distributed properly and the pre-existing condition of their infrastructure made it as bad as it is. |

I guess the opportunity for American businesses to exploit the island, the reason we claimed it as our territory after the Spanish American War, is a thing of the past...
we kinda OWN the place, don't we... |

No. Puerto Rico owns it. They want to maintain their independence, no? |
