To the rest of you, the Free Falls in the Toro Vitola are going for as low as 31.75 per ten pack.

Man you don’t know what you’re missing this is probably my second favorite cigar ever and at this price, I can’t say no.

If it's a RP product...and it doesn't say "LIGERO" on it. I do know what I'm missing. He's a frog's hair width underneath Gurkha for creating sheer garbage cigars.

On another thread of these cigars somewhere here...I put that Padron only ages their '64 Anniversary line for 4 years. The extra year doesn't help RP at all.

Life as waaaaay too short to smoke crappy cigars!

Especially seeing as how these cost 163.95 at MB3 per Box of 20, I would definitely call it a deal.

Nice. I’ve been working through the Rocky line and I’ve enjoyknf them quite a bit. I really enjoy the edge, especially the habana. Recently I just grabbed a twentieth anniversary and it was very flavorful and consistent.

cc13, pls post a link to whatever cigar you're referring to....I don't see a Rocky Patel The edge Maduro 5 year aged ....

I sincerely hope that isn't the reg production RP Edge maddie, you're referring to....

Dave, I think that is the one he's referring to. If you do a google search, you will find a link to the MS with the phrase "The Edge is aged at least five years, creating an award winning, complex, powerhouse blend." The strange thing is that when you click the link and are taken to the MS page, there is no mention of the 5 year aging.

I have a special place in my heart for the Edge, as the Edge Lite is the cigar that started me on this journey. I personally don't smoke any of the line anymore, and I found the Edge Maddie pedestrian at best, but if CC13 really enjoys them, who are we to judge?

Edited to add: From the "unrelated 3rd cousin site who's kept locked in the attic", the following "The secret to the Edge is the 5 year old blend...."

I picked up a box of these last month, and even though I gave a few away, I have only 5 left from the box. They’re a flavor bomb all the way to the nub. So, for all y’all who would rather turn up your nose, Thanks, they’re buzzy little buggers. lol

Cathcam, as I alluded to in my post above, no one has the right to judge you on what you enjoy. Heck, after 10 years of smoking cigars, I still enjoy AJ's stuff, while many here won't touch them. Smoke what you like, and don't worry about what others have to say.

I love them too. The whole edge line is great, in my opinion.

David, I don't disagree....completely. Smoke what you like.

But I also will continue to bash inferior cigars...particularly those that seem to have a LOT of critics.....and those with significant underlying problems....and those that have decent, if not great alternatives in same price bracket.

Now, its been a number of years since I had an RP Edge Maduro....so RP may have changed things up. But, the heavily dyed wrappers, uneven burn and sour finish made for a particularly unpleasant experience for me. I'm well aware that many manufacturers used a tobacco-based coloring to even up wrapper coloring. Nobody really believed that was how RP did it. Brown fingers and lips were a tattletale sing much more pronounced than any other brands. Unless it has improved dramatically, I found RP Edge maduro to be an awful excuse for a premium cigar.

This isn't a Rocky bash, either. I still enjoy Edge Corojo and RP Sungrowns, especially at cbid prices

Another vote for not liking the Edge Maduro. I have a friend, who generously shares, that only buys RP and he buys them all.

Now the Sungrown Maduro. THERE is a good smoke (although it pains me somewhat to agree with Cigar Affectionado). I also like the 2003 Camaroons.

I always say that the fact a cigar continues to be sold means that somebody is buying them. I hope that somebody is buying them because he likes them. Even if cost is your greatest motivator you should still always gravitate toward cigars that you like that are affordable for you. I've tried a lot of dog turds that somebody must like and I don't have his taste buds to know why. One man's RIPPLE is another man's champagne.

I think an RP paired with Boone Farms would be good for you.

What about collected rain water off of a tin roof?

I bet it would enhance the cigar!

OK, I admit it. I actually bid on these.

I like barber poles and these looked interesting, IF I could get them for under $2 per. I guess others feel they are worth far more.

I suspect that RP has warehouses chock full of cigars with 5-10 years of age due to low sales.

Now they're trying to go with the "Aged" cigar! LOLZ!!!!

MidMoFan, I love the Sungrown Maduro, also one of my favorite. I have not had an issue with brown fingers or lips with The edge, they may have fixed that issue. As for the flavor, The Edge is like a more flavorful version of the Sungrown Maduro. The only thing that I have to say that is negative about The Edge is that of the 20 cigars I purchased, 2 were plugged. That was rather annoying.

As for what to pair it with, either a Remy Martin XO or Jefferson Reserve works wonders.

Aha! A dated pun. Boone's Farm may have complemented many a hand-rolled smoke but I doubt many were cigars.

The Edge Maduros I have had (either from my friend or a stray one in a sampler) had quite inconsistent fconstruction/burn and flavor (at times OK, other times harsh or sour).

RP admitted this in an interview where it was noted that, after their initial success/good reviews, they just made too many cigars too fast and quality suffered. Maybe they have fixed it now. the Sungrowns and Cameroons i have been smoking are perfect, but they are not the more "mass market" offerings they have like the Edge and Decade.

The bigger issue is that, even when they didn't have any severe problems, they fell into the "Maduro Trap" where the cigar relies solely on that Maduro wrapper for its flavor. You know that standard review:

"Primary taste is that of a coffee with a subtle cocoa/chocolate sweetness..."

"Bitter Cocoa, Mild Tobacco, Sweet Dried Fruit, Coffee..."

"Hints of coffee, cocoa, and sweet undertones.

There is nothing wrong with any of that, but too many Maduros rely on a strong "cocoa/coffee, slightly sweet" wrapper for everything it delivers, and that's it. - One trick pony. Great if you like the pony, but it can get old especially on a long ride.

Maduros like the RP Sungrown and, as good or better, La Historia, AF Anejo, Oliva V Melano or Padron take it so much further with lots of different complex flavors (including - surprise of surprises - Tobacco!) woven into the maduro profile.

I am going to pick up a box of the Arturo Fuente Añejos this next month. In the meantime I snagged a small batch of San Cristobals along with 2 boxes of the RP Short Run. I will post a review on both after they have set in my Humidor for a few weeks. I have noticed a strong flavor of cocoa and cherry in The Edge. I can’t wait to try these Short Runs they’re supposed to be really good, MB3 has the Torpedoes on sale under 2 dollars per cigar. As for the Sungrown, still a favorite.

↑MB3 on sale are the best deal there is.
