Amazing finish.

Yeah, it's a rat's nest of possibilities.

Pressure on the English to win tomorrow.

England Belgium midweek should be a firecracker.

Colombia recovered from its first game red card loss, and dominated Poland, who looked over-rated...

James Rodriguez's pass from midfield to Cuadrado, who ran onto the ball, raced into the area in front of two defenders and scored, was something to behold... the pass was perfectly paced and placed, delivered while avoiding a couple of Polish players defending him...

side note...Colombia has my vote for best looking female spectators...guess it's easy to look good smiling and cheering...

Portugal v Morocco

Cristiano Ronaldo went down theatrically under a tackle in box from Nordin Amrabat in the 85th minute. Ronaldo screamed for the penalty, even making the TV sign for a review. While there did seem to be at least some contact, Ronaldo threw himself to the ground well after this point and was definitely looking for the penalty.

There was not enough in it to consider a "clear and obvious error." We have also seen increasing instances of the TV sign being made by players and coaching staff and it could be time to make a point and book players, as was threatened by FIFA pre-tournament.

Ronaldo could not be booked for diving as this can only happen when a penalty award is overturned.

VAR RATING: 9/10 Correct decision, but time to get the yellow card out.

from espn, so maybe its true

Neither Spain nor Portugal look to be Finals material...France and Denmark "played" a dull game...maybe England could get to the last game...

Picked 7 out of 8 into the knockout stage.

Thanks, Egypt.

i think the germans not showing up may have provided some more issues for your predictions. what a well officiated game to leave no doubt as to why they didnt advance.

"Fair play" tie-breaker? with Japan tapping the ball around without trying to score... while losing 1-0 , but with a ticket punched if the result remained to the end????

This may be why a casual fan can get dis-satisfied and stop watching this game...I think they have to change this for the next WC...

picks for the final: Belgium vs (Colombia/England) ----> overall WC winner ... I started the WC by picking Colombia, as a sentimental pick, and would like to see them emerge as champs...but England appears to have the "something"

Africa doesn't have a team in the knock-outs, but Senegal deserves to be there;

and Mexico is the lone Concacaf team...the two weakest regions in FIFA and the US couldn't qualify...sad state of affairs for US Soccer, because it can't be said that we'd have done better than Panama or Costa Rica......

not looking forward to expansion to 48 teams

You bet.

Had the Germans winning it in a pool. But put money on Belgium to win it. 10-1.

Columbia is in trouble if James is done. He's the guy that links it all together. Concacaf is poor. Mexico isn't anything special

Tomorrow we see if France can even reach half of their potential.

Really looking forward to the lare game. See if Ronaldo can be Ronaldo again.

Messi and Ronaldo out early, soccer proving it is the ultimate team sport! I kind of felt Ronaldo was going to make me eat my words with his hot start about coming up short in the World Cup every time.

Yea...I'm taking back his anointment as the best soccer player ever...

even though he was marked by two or three players in the attacking third, he should've made more dangerous passes to open teammates...he seems to lack the vision needed to create opportunities for his supporting cast...and Messi wasn't much better as far as results but he does have a more complete game...

"lesser" players like Suarez of Uruguay and Rodriguez of Colombia can dish AND score...and Suarez and James are tenacious defenders too...

Pretty sure Trump had something to do with that result...as payment for their help in 2016...ooops, sorry, wrong thread...

Croatia's win was karmic justice...that take down from behind in the area by a Danish player on an obvious Croat goal opportunity should've been a red card...both keepers were amazing in the shoot-out...even better than Russia's...

FIFA should consider altering the sub rules for over-time in knock-out stages of tournaments...more subs should be allowed, including allowing a player who was subbed for during regulation to re-enter. Watching two exhausted sides on the verge of muscle cramps try to muster energy for brief spurts is excrutiating and dull ... seldom rewarded with goals.
78. Author: teedubbyaDate: Sun, 7/1/2018, 5:16PM EST
I disagree. Tired teams make mistakes. I’m leery of continually wanting to change rules.

We had two games go to pks today but that’s not that common.

Taking tomorrow off for the games.

Have a cigar on Brazil. Win win.

Either a tasty smoke... or out with Neymar.

Need my Belgians tomorrow.
80. Author: ypetrynaDate: Mon, 7/2/2018, 8:24AM EST
delta -- I know they changes the rule about that a season or two ago. since the foul results in a pk, they bump it down to yellow so the team doesnt lose a man and goal.

but that was a must take foul and done right. take your chances with the pk

Germany, Spain, Portugal, and Argentina all out before the quarters.
Wonder what kind of odds you would have received for that bet...

There probably wouldn't have been such an impossible wager to put on the books- nobody would buy it.

Mexico outplaying Brazil. Neymar is actually playing, vs crying. He's got to breakthrough.

This should be straightforward.

Belgium tactics, speed and talent should be way too much for Japan.

Let's not make any drama around this.

Watching Bel vs Jpn while having a late lunch.

If the score isn’t 4-0 I’ll be shocked. Japan is in straight survival play. They are allowing way too many opportunities.

That’s my thoughts on the first 32 mins.

The Belgian goalie made a great play rolling that ball out. Then the poise to let that ball pass through to the backside was beautiful. That was one fun half of soccer to watch.

Best game of the WC tournament...both sides played attacking styles...very entertaining, as the sport was intended ...otherwise, why have goal lines and goals?

I don't think of him as a Diver. But he is a full on Opportunist. He's more classic, stoic, English. None of the rolling around, Italian/Neymar, pitch dusting.

I support Arsenal, so if I could take a shot at Kane, I'd take it.
