Comedians and racial comments
1. Author: tailgaterDate: Tue, 9/17/2019, 7:48AM EST
Today's news story is about Shane Gillis. I've never heard of him, but SNL hired him and then fired him because of insensitive comments made on his podcast or some other social media thingy.
https://www.npr.org/2019/09/16/761367838/comedian-shane-gillis-fired-from-saturday-night-live-for-racist-remarks

Would SNL have fired a black comedian if that comedian used the N word in a podcast or similar?

I haven't heard the Gillis podcast. I am assuming he used the slurs in a comedic fashion, not in a hateful manner. If that's not the case, then the SNL decision is understandable.
With that said, I'm willing to bet this is just a PC marketing decision and it speaks volumes for the target audience that SNL craves.

Now excuse me.
I have to sign up for Netflix so I can watch Dave Chappelle.
That dude doesn't hold back for anything. A modern day Lenny Bruce and Richard Pryor rolled into one.

I listened to an excerpt about the opioid crisis.
He called it the white equivalent to the crack cocaine problem. Said he couldn't care less. And the punchline was "Just say no".
His delivery is unmatched and you'll hate yourself for laughing.
But isn't that what comedy is all about?

I do think the opioid crisis gets the attention and resources it gets because it impacts affluent communities. In that regard chappelle is actually right.

Don’t know about the snl dude or what happened and wouldn’t frame it or offer an opinion without first knowing more.

Been reading a bit more about it. I think his firing is bogus.

PC run amuck. Good thing Carlin, Pryor and Murphey aren't still out there. It would probably trigger the apocalypse.

Your preconceptions are duly noted.

they were old and tired Chinese stereotypes that stopped being funny decades ago...except to a few insensitive unoriginal folks who don't enjoy being laughed at themselves...

crack cocaine problem (among mostly poor minorities): arrest and jail

opioid crisis (more affluent majority population): treat and divert

Kids have to pay top dollar for an Epi-Pen, but opioid addicts overdosing for the umpteenth time get free Narcan.

WTF has our world come to?

Frank and I once combined Abbot and Costello with Dr. Seuss.

We called it "Horton hears a Who's on first?"
