Shooting in KC??

Anyone hear about this??

https://abcnews.go.com/US/dead-15-injured-kansas-city-shooting/story?id=68398118

I hadn't heard about it. The news was too busy talking about the peaceful march in VA. I didn't even see or hear about this until my cousin brought it to my attention. I wonder why?

Could it be because the perpetrator was a prior felon who should not have had a gun, and was taken out by an armed security guard? Just wondering.

Yup. Not only locally but was all over the national news sites. You must have missed it but it caught my eye. the google machine still has plenty of press on it.

It happened Sunday night/Monday morning following the NFL games. Both sides of the issue are hoar ing the case and spinning it to fit their needs. One mirrors your take, the other points to the relaxation of some laws that allowed it to happen.

meh. its no news conspiracy either way. shootings happen every day that don't make national news. there were likely some today. this one did happen to make it largely due to it's timing. we have a lot of shootings here.

you posted from ABC national.... here is one from CNN... there are many many other reports out there. No surprise the cnn one takes a bogus approach

(CNN)The suspected gunman in the Kansas City bar shooting had previous firearm charges that could have sent him to prison, but legislators changing gun laws in 2017 kept him free.

Jahron Swift, 29, was found dead in a parking lot Sunday night after he pulled out a gun and opened fire while waiting in line at a bar Sunday night. Police said the bar's armed security guard engaged with Swift, shooting him dead. A 25-year-old woman was also found at the scene, she was identified as Raeven Parks. Fifteen other people were injured during the shooting.

Court records show that Swift had two weapons charges in 2016 and 2017. The 2016 charge was for for unlawful use of a weapon and marijuana possession, according to court records. Swift was charged in 2017 with unlawful concealed carry, which could have revoked his probation on the previous charge and increased his chances of going to prison, Mike Mansur, Jackson County Prosecutor spokesman told CNN.

However, the second charge came as Missouri legislators approved measures that permitted concealed weapons being carried without a permit.
"I can't say that he would have been imprisoned but I can say that the change in the law assured that he would be free because that charge went away," Mansur said.
As a result of this change, the second charge against Swift was dropped by the county prosecutor. The change in the law "assured that we couldn't do anything further building off that earlier charge," Mansur said.

Additional efforts by the prosecutor's office to confine Swift also failed. Officials tried to have his bond revoked, but Mansur said the court denied the request.

Truth be told.... the shooting does not illustrate the need for or against gun laws nor does it so a media conspiracy. It's a bad guy that shot folks and it happens nightly in this country and most days here. Not all of them can be reported or that is all we would read or see. This one is.

You're in the area, so I figured your news would have had it.

As I said, I saw or heard nothing until it was pointed out and I did a search for it. I just find it odd since the news across the country likes to broadcast these 'mass shootings' for days.

Why the hell do you want to take guns away from prior felons?
F-cking libtard

All over the national news. Truth be said I rarely watch or read the locals. Admittedly I did see it also on the local news but it was crowded out by the Chiefs win which I happened to want to see. Honestly I think there was as much national as local coverage, but it could be because I pay more attention to the nationals.

maybe the Trump networks didn't carry it but most others did. You need to get out more. (joke)

The fact you didn't notice doesn't mean it wasn't reported.

Edit... deleted a line because one death is too many and my comment read differently than intended.

Maybe 15 hurt or dead (or however many it was) just isn't a big deal anymore

I edited my post before this post because I thought my post could be taken that way.... not as intended if you are referencing me... and you may not be.

we do have a lot of shootings in this town however. A quick search shows this made usatoday, nytimes, ap, NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN, fox, usnews, npr, wash post etc in addition to the locals. Thats odd to get that sort of national coverage considering all the shootings we have that do not make nationjal news. I think the kc star story was even carried by the santa rosa paper.

I think we had another mass killing that made even broader news in October. I read it on the BBC website.

"Kansas City violence this year has exceeded 2018 totals, and is approaching the modern high-water mark left in 2017, when the city tallied 151 homicides and 505 nonfatal shootings.

A year ago, police saw an improved homicide clearance rate as reason for optimism. This year, the clearance rate sagged while shootings and homicides rose."

At one time we were fifth per capita in homicides but I think we rose.

Prior felon? Do we really want to put people in jail for two or more years (potential sentence must exceed 2 years to be considered a felony) for having a pistol and half a blunt absent some violent act? Why would we? I can think of nothing more asinine.

Don’t know exactly the number of people incarcerated for such heinous crimes, but what ever the number, it costs the taxpayer an average of $26 per day to house a hardened criminal in minimum to medium security.

It wont work Victor. We all know you are embarrassed to be thought of as a liberal.
But your progressive ideas, disdain of Trump, and above 99 IQ all serve to betray you - Liberal Boy.

We all know....

Well if this has been all over the news it damn sure hasn't made it to Texas national or otherwise. This is the first we've heard of it.

It’s still out there on most of the national outlets. It’s not hidden. It was front page on most of the websites but has now moved.

You do realize that just because you didn’t notice or were unaware that doesn’t mean it wasn’t reported nationally or in your area. It is possible the news sources you use didn’t report on it much. There is probably a lot they don’t choose to report but those are your chosen sources.

Again this case doesn’t support the need for more gun laws, less gun laws or the media boogeyman hiding things.

I believe whistle didn’t see it. I haven’t seen it reported on pornhub either.

When you decide that the only news sources are OANN and Prager U, it's easy to claim lots of stuff never gets reported on the news....

However, if you watched Fox News over the summer last year, you got 2-12 minutes of updates on a missing Iowa girl every single day for two months -- coverage you might not have otherwise seen if you didn't stray from Huff Post and Vox. If it weren't for El Paso and Dayton, I might not have known anyone was murdered anywhere last summer...

I live quite a ways from Seattle, don't watch their local news, but something happened there last night.

Part of the reason the media conspiracy and cover up stuff is so bogus is there is no longer a way to conceal or control the news. Too much information flow from all directions. Like any conspiracy theory it is just too difficult for two or more folks to keep a secret. We have information flow that is like mesh reporting. And the nationals are part of it. They report everything. Too much if anything.

Also reporters and outlets are not noble. They really don't have or stick to a cause (opinion writers aside). They would report on their mamma for coin. It's always been that way. The media media media snowflake cry is nothing more than a political ploy. That does not mean the media in various forms is not biased. But its not hard to sort through if you insist on facts..... too many people do not however. They accept what fits their view as fact and everything else is untrue. To believe a fact that doesn't fit the chosen narrative of my party would make me (or you) one of them.

Nonsense the facts are out there. The fact you haven't seen or read them does not mean they do not exist. Especially when your chosen newssource is intentionally extremely limited.

There was another multiple shooting this weekend that was widely reported. Name the city LOL.

The one I was thinking about happened at a place called MACS lounge but that may get lost since there was another one this afternoon elsewhere. All out in the open and reported.

hell... between the impeachment and kobe's death I can't find anything on the news. Everything gets buried 2 seconds later by "new" information about one of those two things. I literally had to go and search for those two.
