UPDATE:

I gave him a Hemmingway and he insisted I try his favorite. I lit the Acid Kuba and it was the worst cigar I've ever smoked. With only a few puffs I put the cigar down. The sweet saccharine sugar they put on the outside stayed in my mouth for hours. Despite my insults towards his taste in cigars he doubled down and still really enjoys them. I spent the rest of the week smoking LFG ligeros and doubles, it will take weeks to recover. The wedding is still on, with the caveat he is no longer invited despite footing the bill.
