My Humi-Balls Are Sweating
1. Author: CheapPrickDate: Thu, 1/21/2021, 3:15AM EST
I bought Humi-Care 2oz jars from cbid and they are over humidifying. They are supposed to be 70% 2-way humidification, or so I thought. I'm reading near 80% in my coolidor... Oh, whatever shall I do?
Who has experience with other beads? Does the same problem exist with other brands? What do you think are the best?

First off, I would check the accuracy of your hydrometer. If it is, indeed, accurate, then I would check the seal of your container (dollar test). A bad (i.e., leaky) seal can let in too much outside air /moisture. If both check out then maybe it’s the Humi-Care jars but I don’t have any experience with them so I don’t have any insight there.

As far as alternatives, Heartfelt beads or Boveda packs are the way to go. Both are great products and don’t require much maintenance. Personally I use a mix of both at 65% RH

Good luck!

What is the temperature in the coolerdor?

If it's 70F, then you're F-ed. If the temp is low, you're probably ok.

If the temperature is low, then the RH will go up, but that doesn't change the amount of moisture in the box, just the relative reading. In terms of moisture, 80RH at 66F = 69.7RH at 70F.

The coolidor temp reads about 65 and the hygrometer may be a little off. I put it in a ziplock baggie with a couple 72% boveda packs and it reached about 75%. But still, if it's reading 78% its a bit high for my comfort and this is winter, in summer I get high temp, high humidity so it would be prudent of me to address this asap.

I've got several Humi-Care HX10's and never had any issues in my NewAir CC-100H or various tupperdor's.

even kitty litter would be better than the glycol crap in those jars.

If your temperature is only 65F, then you don't have a problem, and there's nothing to address. The RH should read about 80%.

I'm glad to help. You can send me my fee via paypal.

Actually, I'm going to post a PSA about this for people who are confused or mislead by the mainstream media on this.
