A couple years ago I would have agreed with you. Much of it has been repaved in the last few years.

I-10’s not any worse than I-20 or I-40. It’s more state related. Some states do a better job at keeping up the roads. Besides that stretch of I-20 between the LA / TX state line and the LA / MS state line is waaaay worse than the I-10 to I-12 back to I-10 route down south.

Also, I-59 south though MS isn’t exactly smooth either.

I do not love I-20, but I-10, especially the bad section you mentioned, sucks. But I-10 is usually the quickest way.

If the road builders there have figured out how to match roadway levels to the roadway of bridges, it will be a lot better drive, but most bridges are a PITA to cross. I

No doubt. In lieu of cabinets, my old truck had a top bunk. I kept most of my stuff up there in milk crates. I always had to stop and pick chit up off the floor after I passed through as it would bounce all over the place. My new truck has twice as many airbags for the suspension and cabinets instead of a top bunk. I hardly notice it now.

Unfortunately you find those types of bridges on I-20 as well. Just not as many. I-70 and I-80 seem like the smoothest riding highways, but I can’t stop in at home when driving up there.

I’d be a hell of a lot more concerned about the effects of reeling up yellowfin and reds on your back. As far as roads are concerned, Preparation H is your friend. Whistle

Pull on a 100+ lb tuna for 30 minutes and lemme know how your back feels. LOL

Clearing out cabinets, garage just about cleared out, clothes I won't wear for awhile packed away in a suitcase. Got 2 boxes packed with stuff to ship to the Philippines, many other things packed. Movers won't have a lot to do but pack and carry the heavy stuff. I just hope I reserved enough room in the truck for all the crap we're taking.

Wife is more sentimental than me... toss it... we'll make new memories. LOL Overruled... Brick wall

Actually the science says you should apply ice / cold rather than hot in the first 24 hours. Seemed counter-intuitive when I first started doing that but it works so I go that route first and then the Icy Hot / Tiger Balm stuff later.

And you don't know the difference between a yellowTAIL and a yellowFIN tuna? Not the same fish, brah...

The largest yellowtail ever caught was 92 lbs and it's a jack fish... like amberjack. Yellowfin tuna get much bigger and they're tuna.

Moving away from the azz diversion for a moment, some moving tips from a local Realtor. Prolly redundant, but just in case...

Quote:
"I'd wish I'd known that before I picked a mover." Having a checklist of questions might have prevented this issue. This list of questions will provide you with things to discuss when interviewing a moving company.

Fees

What is the charge for packing?
Does it include boxes? If not, what do they cost and will you deliver them?
Is there an additional charge to deliver some items to a storage unit?
Insurance

How is a damage claim handled?
What insurance do you provide and is there a cost?
Does the insurance cover items packed by the owner?
Can additional insurance be purchased?
If items are covered by my Homeowner's insurance, whose insurance pays first?
Unusual Items

Can you ship my car(s)? Will they be in the moving van or towed?
What are the charges for shipping cars, lawn tractors, etc?
What items cannot be shipped?
If a shuttle truck is needed because of the location of my house or size of the drive way, is there an additional charge?
If packing and loading are on different days, can you leave the beds and other basics out for us to use?
Dates

What dates are available for our move?
What date will you pack and how long will this take?
What date will you load the van?
What date will the van arrive at my new location?
If my new home is not ready for delivery, how many days can it be delayed before there is a charge?
What is the charge for additional days or weeks?
Terms

Are there any additional fees that I'm responsible for that have not been discussed?
What are the terms of payment?
Is a down payment required?
When will the balance be due and who is authorized to accept it?

Got a call from the shipping company. Movers will be here Wednesday between noon and 4. They'll call when they are 1-2 hours out.

Lady on the phone said it shouldn't take them more than 2-4 hours? Really? Okay... Granted, we're not moving a whole house full of stuff and the wife and I already have about 10 boxes of stuff packed, but if it's just 2 guys? 2-4 hours?

When we moved my ex wife's grandparents many years back, they hired a moving company to pack them up and load the stuff up. We did purge and sift through items that they didn't need for their new place weeks ahead of time. We did some prepackaging of other stuff that was deemed important and irreplaceable.

The bulk of the stuff was left for the moving company to deal with. If memory serves me, they had 4 or 5 guys and packed up a whole house, a 3 BR split level ranch including all the furniture and $hit. Took them about about 6 hours to clear out the place. They were pretty efficient.

See the humor as best you can on this odd-essay. Think of them as first world problems and it will go well.

MACS - sounds like you got this planned with military-like precision. Good luck was all the planning and details come into their final stages.

I am married to a self-described Army brat. When we moved from NY (Long Island) to Alabama, she started planning the move 6 months in advance. She had it all planned out and I could not have done it without her planning and assistance. She worked each day to make the move easy for me as I continued to work and help purge and pack at night. It went almost exactly as she had planned it out.

No worries - you got this.

All my household goods, that we're taking, are getting packed up right now. Should have a 90% empty house by the end of the day...

Of course the price increased, though... their "over the phone" estimate was damn near doubled when they showed up and did the tour of the house and saw what we're taking is almost twice as much as they were told.

Oh well... price ya pay, I guess. Paid half today the other half at delivery.

Mac's....

Every truck top or gas station you stop at ...
That has SCRATCH OFF LOTTERY TICKETS...

WELL ????

DO LIKE MEEEESTA' HONEESSSSS' !

TRASH CAN TICKET DIVE , THEN CHECK them when you get to Florida...or along the way in each state you go thru....

If the "scratch to cash" ticket areas are unscratched...
They are all possible winners!!!
You could find a big winner or several small ones?
Enough to pay the gas/ diesel bill at least...

Bring plenty of antibiotics bacterial wipe containers to clean
Your mits after trash can diving...you can't SCRATCH wet tickets either...put them under your windshield wipers if it's sunny and dry out... they'll be dry in under 30 minutes!!!

Scratch AHOY!!!

Florida surpasses nation in economic growth

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - The “Sunshine State” has outpaced the United States and contributed more than $23 billion to Florida’s economy, according to a report from the Department of Financial Services.

DFS reported that in the second quarter of 2020, the United States experienced 5.4% in gross domestic product growth, while Florida had a rate of 6.3%.

Florida Chief Financial Officer Jimmy Patronis says “much of Florida’s wage growth is driven by people leaving their home states to move to Florida.”

Migration to Florida contributed $23.7 billion to Florida’s adjusted gross income from 2019 to 2020.

The report also states the total income of families moving to Florida is over $120,000 on average.
