New York crime

Gotta love how tough on crime they are. Congressman Zeldin gets attacked by somebody with a weapon while on stage at a campaign stop, the assailant was processed and immediately release on his own recognizance. Luckily, nobody was hurt, and this loony may have given Zeldin’s campaign a huge boost given these events.

Well at least the attacker of the congressman didn't have contempt for congress

2 years for that ( if you support Trump)

Crime is bad though DA Bragg should arrest the witnesses who restrained the attacker & charge them with murder.

You are not a very smart person. Are you a recovering addict?

I would describe him as a fundamentalist.
With no recovery in sight….

Suspected Lee Zeldin attacker David Jakubonis arrested on federal assault charge

Quote:
The troubled Army veteran who allegedly attacked US Rep. Lee Zeldin during a gubernatorial campaign stop near Rochester was hit with a federal assault charge Saturday, authorities revealed.

David Jakubonis “willfully” assaulted the congressman and Republican candidate for governor of New York “with a dangerous weapon” in Perinton on Thursday evening, an FBI agent alleged in a criminal complaint filed in United States District Court. Zeldin, 42, was unhurt.

Jakubonis allegedly violated a federal law against intentionally assaulting a federal lawmaker or member of the Executive Branch, according to the six-page affidavit written by Special Agent Timothy Klapec.

Jakubonis claimed to sheriff’s office investigators he “did not know” who Zeldin was, and that he “must have checked out,” but the federal statute doesn’t require the prosecution to prove that a suspect is aware of a victim’s position to charge someone under that law. Jakubonis also told investigators that he had drunk whiskey on Thursday, according to the affidavit.

What is wrong with being a recovering addict?

Takes a hell of a lot more being one in Recovery vs actively using?

Why do you feel compelled to chit on people trying to rebuild and make themselves better?

Morality is an emergent phenomenon... and oh ya, I forgot I was him, or him is I... that's right, I remember now. My apologies for being so callous, my alter ego can be a bit of a bad influence.

Let's explore the word phenomenon

Actually, morality goes far back to group and tribal humans. Natural selection favors those groups that take care of each other. And so morals and rules of courtesy evolved. These norms are not isolated to mammals.

So emergent then?

Benny doesn't believe in such a thing as a phenomenon.

It contradicts his worldview.

Emergent is the strawman word alert

Huh?

See, it's gibberish like this that makes it so I can't have a real argument with you.

Like...

Define "Belief in a phenomenon"...

And please explain how claiming something is emergent equates to a strawman (this I gotta hear)...

I don't think you do.

It appears so.

On an unrelated note, science is coming to see that time is also an emergent quality…..but I digress.

I was not justifying morality. Just pointing to its origin.

Ben notwithstanding.

... And space for that matter...

I have come to the "belief" of the emergence of spacetime.

Call it a belief in a phenomenon if you will.

Is that absolutely true, or could you be wrong about that?

Anyone could be wrong on any given point.

With a preponderance of the evidence and application of sound logic we arrive at “theory” and these become working theories. This is how we build aircraft and pay taxes.

Newton’s work built our mechanized world, yet he was shown to not be completely correct by Einstein.

If there is an absolute truth, it is that all truth is mutable. Relative to the observer, or test at hand.

I will grant you out of hand that within religious beliefs there are “absolute truths”.
But these are personal truths. And have a different standard of proof.

Perhaps you could expand upon you question a bit.

I believed I answered the absolutely true part.
