Well, I finally smoked my first Buc. he last time I was out to CI I purchased a Full Sail and hung on to it for the right time. I would like to be able to tell you something about the construction, which was ver nice I admit, or the flavor, but I was so distracted by the draw that I can't think of anything to say. I suspect my ability to taste has been significantly diminished due to the constriction of my brain caused by the hard draw. There was a time that I was afraid the whole cigar would actually get sucked down my throat. As my eyes were being drawn back into my head I could feel my skull constricting. But maybe that's what the company intendeed so that the smoker could feel the whole experience of the real Buccaneers. In any case I don't think I'll be trying another one soon matey.

Most of the Bucs I've smoked, tend to be a little high on the humidity level ... for some reason.

As in all maduros ... I find they smoke best if kept dwon to the 65%-$68% level.

I was supposed to light it? Humi is sitting right around 68%, so it's Davey Jones Locker for DrMaddVibe. Low, only for you will I try one more of these freebooters nightmares. Maybe one day we can meet in Hanover and you can try to convince me how good these things are. For now, at least for me, the Indians take the Buccaneers every day.

I find it amusing that only a few people feel the need to bash this quality product.

Bash away. I stand by what I said earlier. You were the problem. Not the cigar!

Careful Doc, this is the new "Touchy Feely" Board. Best to say, I respect your opinion, but I disagree and it's unfortunate that you feel that way. Maybe you'll see things differently in the future. How was that?

Yeah, but I don't feel the need to change what I believe for the sake of some complainers!

I wonder if this is how they act towards EVERY product?

More for me. I like that!

I'm finishing that classico maduro beli now. It's very smooth, nice draw, good medium body that never got harsh, right down to the nub... Too bad their president said bad things about my mother :-( I really do enjoy their cigars.

Slim,
I have 2 more Classic Maduros(I was supposed to trade them to Robby (GOBP) for an Impanema but he is a lame butt and forgot). I will go home tonight, pour myself my favorite herfing beverage (Blantons Single Barrel) and give them one more honest to goodness open minded try.

I've never had a problem with any Buc; 'cept the Windjammer line; way too mild. Oh and arrrrgghhhhh!!!

Agree that these smoke better at lower humidity; although, I keep mine at ~68% all the time and have not had any draw problems with any smokes unless they were rolled too tight from the get go. argh!

Good for you, BeatDragon!

I guess taking the 'tail between the legs' approach has it's merrits ... LOL!

I was told by John of Bucanero, that if he was stranded on a deserted island, and had only one of his line of cigars to smoke, out of all the different lines of cigars they produce ... he would choose the Clasico Maduro.

I hope it is a pleasurable experience for you, but if not ... it's just not in line with your tastes!

BTW ... I've had three of the el Capitan Reserva 'Peg Legs' in the last two days. Man, I just can't seem to stay away from them ... LOL!

I have yet to try them. Got a 5-pack of the Maddie Beli. coming after tomorrow, but I do know this, never judge a cigar by the first one. In fact, my first Encanto (blowout) had a draw that almost ripped my tonsils out. The next one however was perfect and not a bad little gar for $.60.

Now there is the matter of consistency. You expect a higher $ smoke to be consistent. It's just possible you got the only bad one in the crop.

Try another. If it's still tight, well you better keep quiet for fear of reprisal from some of these guys for practicing your 1st Amendment right.

Peace and Love. xxxooo

Hey Doc, you need to get some anger management counseling. heaven forbid I should have critisized something that was really important.

You said "I find it amusing that only a few people feel the need to bash this quality product". You must be easily amused. I would be willing to bet that there are hundreds, if not thousands that think Bucs are dog rockets. Not because the're bad, but because everyone has different tastes. That's why they make vanilla and chocolate.

That being said, I don't recall really bashing the product. In fact I said "I would like to be able to tell you something about the construction, which was very nice I admit, or the flavor, but I was so distracted by the draw that I can't think of anything to say." So, let's recap. I think I said the construction and flavor was "very nice", But I was distracted by the draw. What would you have done if I flat out called it a dog rocket. I also believe in a later post I jokeingly told Lowman, who I consider a friend, "Low, only for you will I try one more of these freebooters nightmares." I used the terminology only in keeping with the Buc theme "free·boot·er (fr¶“b›”t…r) n. A person who pillages and plunders, especially a pirate."

I only felt compelled to even comment on this due to the high esteme in which the Buc line is held, almost to the point of veneration. Lest no one forget that after all it is a handmade cigar, and like all things hand made occasionaly it's possible to get one that is blocked. Gasp!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, I said blocked. NOT OVERHUMIDIFIED. I have had FFOXs, ITs, Ashtons, Cohibas, and any number of other sticks that were blocked. Even Jenifer Lopez gets a pimple now and then.

So Doc, chill. Maybe one day we'll meet and discuss the virtues of consistancy over a FRIENDLY smoke.

Does anyone else find it odd that people take cigar criticism so personal? It's not like they're attacking your mother; or is it? Who gives a rats ass what one guy thinks about your cigar. At worst this post could bring the price down. Just relax, light one up and relish in why you smoke these things in the first place.

Sketch, a sample of a post of mine from about a week ago...

"Its still weird, and stranegly amusing ambassador or not. They're just freakin cigars but heaven forbid someone doesn't share that sentiment. I posted something that said I thought they were over rated and you would think I was talkin bad 'bout their mommas. I know that most were just havin a good time with it, but some just couldnt let it go. Just find it funny thats all. All this about a cigar. YIKES!"

Its like your intitled to you opinion, but its wrong...EEEESH!

Yeah Beat, I read that one. It was probably in my subconscious when I wrote that last reply.

I have friends like that. Everything's a confrontation. They just maked me laugh. They always had redeeming qualities or they wouldn't' have remained my friends. I enjoy a good argument probably more than the next guy. I'm a devil's advocate, but I tend to choose more important battles.

Whatever. To each his own.

Funny, that's what makes me laugh too. How someone will try 1(one!)cigar and stand up on their soap-box and cry foul.

I posted earlier that I wondered if these same individuals did the same with EVERY product or service. I could just hear some of the complaints.

"Everyone there was horrible"

"She was the worst in the sack"

"This ice isn't cold enough"

There's a good reason for the strong opinions formed around this cigar(yeah, it's just a cigar, but then again your wives are just women too!), when you see the scales tip one way severly to one side it tends to leave the oddballs looking like, well oddballs.

Everyone has different tastes, and I'm not out to change them but for the sake of appearing like a freaking crybaby do yourselves a HUGE favor and try them again. It is made by a person, and they do make mistakes. Several cigar companies even make different lines because they know that not everyone would enjoy a particular line.

Some people like to complain for the sake of complaining. Remember that next time you're sharing that "great" cigar with somebody.

I for one, have tried several Bucaneros. The first one, I enjoyed thoroughly. However, after that first time-smoke, I wasn't impressed much with the cigar. So, I decided to save some money and smoke those I would enjoy more thoroughly. It's not a bad cigar, just not my cup of tea. It was smooth, with little to no aftertaste...but didn't have that full flavor or oomph that I'm looking for.

Doc,

I agree. qball's test sample was pretty limited. I did mention that in my 1st reply. q did say however, in his 1st reply that he would try another.

Also, it didn't sound like complaining to me. More like a report of his experience. In that report he mentioned that it was his 1st. Now if the reader doesn't know enough to be skeptical about a review of 1 cigar, well then that's their problem.

Thanks Doc for stirrin' it up a little. You made Daddy/Daughter/Home day more interesting anyway.

Take it easy.

Depends on the answer I guess. If you were implying that I did, then please feel free to show me where w/copy and paste. If not, well then I agree. It's ridiculous to weigh in on anything you haven't experienced. I myself am looking forward to sampling my first Buc. However, I got the Clasico Maddie on the way and I've heard that they're not exactly Buc's best. What do you think about that Mr.Mean?

No it's not you. I thouroughly enjoy the maduro Classico line. It's not a full bodied smoke. They are more to the medium/mild side but wonderful flavors, construction, complexity, and draw.

Thanks for the quick review. I can't wait to try 'em for myself and see what all the fuss is about. I'll try not too have too high of expectations. We all know how that can dampen the experience.

Are they good right out of the box, or do they REQUIRE some sleep?

I had one off the truck last night, it was very nice. Started out tasting like a Bahia, then modified a bit. But was smooth and consistent throughout. Down to the nub. Too bad their president egged my house...

I love the Full Sail maddies. The Peg Legs are good too. Have not tried the Windjammers yet, but I have a bunch of various Bucs in the humi, waiting for the week long rain we've had here in ND to stop.

Mr.Mean --- I sent 'that person' two Full Sails and two Peg Legs, so he could have more than one of each. That way, if the first one doesn't do it for him, at least he will have another to try later on down the line to comapre it to.

sketcha --- yes they are good right out of the box. but as in most cigars ... age will always improve them. The leaves they use for the Bucanero cigars are aged 3 to 5 years before they are rolled, and then they 'rest' in their aging rooms after they are rolled for at least 6 months before they are released.

For me, Bucanero has been a consistently good cigar, whether OTT or after aging ... I've never experienced even a hint of a draw problem with any of the many I've smoked.

Whether they're to a particular individual's taste or not, well ... that's another subject ... taste is a highly subjective thing ... because I like them or because Slim and the good DrMaddVibe like them (and how you doin' these days, Doc?) doesn't mean someone else will ... but as Doc said, that's a good thing ... there's not an infinite quantity of Bucs, so if quite a few out there don't like them, it's more for the rest of us to smoke ...

Well Low, it's like this. Thanks to you I walked the plank a second time on Saturday. While I have to say that the experience was somewhat better the second time around, and my Journey back to NJ was more pleasurable as a result, the mainsail just couldn't stay inflated. I suppose if I was raping and pillaging, I might want to have a Buc along, but for everyday, I'll stay with IT or Oliva. I think the name Full Sail should be changed to Mizenmast. All that being said, if it was half the price maybe I would dance with the devil again.

Now I suppose I have to worry about pirates storming my castle. Well, I'll fill the moat with Bad Frogs. Anyone that can past that deserves all they can plunder.

AAAARRRRGGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oops!! Where did that come from.
