Okay, my internet was down for a few days, but I'm back now (after I hear godfather was accidentally posting under my name while I was gone).

Anyway, tonight I had a bad experience. I got a La Perla Habana toro as part of a sampler from CBid, and it was sitting in my humi for several weeks.

All the other cigars from that sampler were great, but tonight I tried lighting up the Perla...

First off, the foot looked really funny when I lit it up, like it sort of bloomed out, but that went away after the first ash. The dry was hard, but tasted okay...then all of a sudden the wrapper just split! After that, the taste became nasty and I put it out before the wrapper had time to unravel.

From all appearances, this cigar looked, felt, and tasted like it was bone dry! But it had been setting in the humi for weeks, plus, I'd already had a cigar from the same humi that day and it was fine.

Is this just a thing with La Perla Habanas, or is there some other explanation?

funny, I had one last night and was thinking "what a great, underrated cigar this is."
Perfect burn, nice draw, & good flavor (no olive loaf or pencil lead though).

Try another if you get a chance.

Sounds like you had too much humidity and the foot swelled and then split when you lit it.

Double check your humidity. And, if you haven't done the salt test on your hygrometer then do so now before this affects any more of your cigars.

What Hoagie said.
I had a La Perla Maduro Toro with about a year on it last night. Man! Was that ever tasty. Rich volume of smoke, chocolate overtones, with a spice finish.
Just awesome.

Hey Dan I think Hoagie is right because my cigar had a tight draw up until half way ( I had a 1066 King Aurthur). we just have to blame southern Indiana for the problem. Maybe we can sue to get us some cigars just like the way the fat kid sued McDonalds.

I think he's right too.

But its wierd...I had a La Aurora before that that had been sitting in the same humi for a few days, and it was perfect. But the Perla was crap.

ikonoklast7 --- just because a cigar's wrapper splits on you, doesn't mean it's crap ... this can happen to even the finest of cigars.

... I've had this happen to me on many cigars over the years, and for various resons ... my most recent being an OpusX ...
