I have read here about guys wishing their wives would buy them cigars and speak highly of them when they do. My wife wanted to buy me some as a surprise but wasn't sure what to buy. I came up with an idea for a website and thought I would throw the idea out here to see if you guys would join.

It would be simple. Like a wedding gift registry at a store. The person would sign up and list the brands, gauges and etc that he likes. The wife or whoever would could log on and see his choices and then go buy what is wanted without worry that it won't be liked.

would you guys sign up for such a thing, and do you think your wife or ? would use it?

Thanks

I wouldn't use it because my wife would never buy me cigars (I'm not so lucky). But I do think it is an excellent idea.

Honestly, I think it is a good idea...but it's not good enough for me to pay to use. If you are independently wealthy or have other means of funding it besides user fees, I'd sign up.

While you're at it, how about a free website where I can find attractive women who are willing to buy me gifts?

wbslngr --- I think it's a good idea, for those who would use it. I'm just questioning how often it would be used ...

For myself ... it's just not something I (or anyone else I know) would use ... honestly ... I prefer to buy my own cigars, or do a trade once in awhile.

That's part of the ritual, for me ...

Actually that is a neat idea. I guess my husband is lucky because I am the wife that buys the cigars for him. I do alot of research when I buy them. I get ideas on cigars from reading this forum and from ratings from cigar magazines. I've actually got a quite a list going. I think that it would help other wives out if such a website is available. It's really intimidating to buy cigars, especially for women, when you have no idea what is out there and to try to understand the meaning of the wrappers and fillers not to mention different sizes.

I too think its a good idea for those who might use it. I wouldn't be using it but I am sure there are many significant others out there that would like a way to find this information.

My wife doesn't buy my cigars any more than I buy her clothes. We just take each other shopping. She also needs only to check my database for my highest ratings to see what I like.

Good luck.

For some it would work but I'm with Slim on this one. I like to "hunt" for my cigars and play with them. I like going into the local shop and talking with the workers and sometimes just not talking at all...browsing the selections. My wife is not into my hobby nor ever would be.

I'm with Dan.., Keep a journal. Electronic or otherwise. They are pretty cheap. It might work as a business if they could register for other places or had links and advertising. Or if you advertised to the more blue collar crowd.

While a potentially handy thing for occasional use such as Fathers Day, birthdays or Christmas, it's hard to imagine such a Site would draw a great deal of everyday use ... so, it would have to have a pretty substantial base to have any business potential on an everyday basis ...

And from what source do you see it deriving revenue? ... if from advertising, it would need to be able to demonstrate a high 'hit' rate ...

I dunno ... the idea itself is intriguing, but I'm not too sure it could function as a stand-alone business. However, it MIGHT be quite useful for an outfit such as CI to have it as an added feature within it's online presence ... maybe you could sell the idea to them ...

My Wife knows what type Cigars I like because she's usually sharing them with me... not to say she wouldn't sign up to try and surprise me with something new... but she also reads the posts here on new Cigars to try and then from there waits until I find them or bids on them...she has gone to the local shops though and picked me up some of my Favorites just for like special occasions...It's still a good idea for those not so fortunate I would say Web!!!

wbslngr, I think it is a neat idea, but I think you had a post on here a while back that had more potential. I think it was the idea to design a website for the cigar birthday club. However, I would not limit it to cigars alone. I would allow anyone to exchange anything for anyone's b-day or any other occasion. I really havent seen that done before. There are tons of web-based registry systems out there, though no one to my knowledge has one for cigars. Still, I think the Birthday Club has more potential.

I've been designing and building web-based apps for the last 5-6 yrs. All of the work has been for Intranets. You and I must have thought of the Cigar Birthday site at the same time, because I had sketched out screen designs, high level requirements, entity relationship diagrams, blah, blah, blah. If I had the spare cash, I would have paid for hosting for a year and see if I got any bites on the idea. However, after seeing the responses to the post you got on the idea, I decided the money would be better spend on CBID 5-packs. I was thrilled to see that someone else had the same idea, though.

Just curious, do you do a lot of coding yourself, or do you focus mainly on off-the-shelf products.

Keep the thoughts and ideas coming, bro.

Actually we might get together. I work with web design, and am constantly learning to do more custom instead of making changes to existing items. I have an interest in databases right now and I started working with what I can do with them.

I lease servers and sell space, usually to people I make sites for. I have server space. Maybe we could work together on that idea of the birthday club and such.

Sounds good. I'll look for my notes this weekend and maybe fire out an e-mail on Sunday afternoon/evening. We can compare ideas and see what we can come up with.

I really prefer that my SO not have any idea about the cigars I buy, and I certainly don't want her to have any idea what I shell out each month to maintain my addiction. Sorry. :-}

Well, my wife bought me my second humidor.
Neither of them are anything fancy, but she bought both of them and as far as I am concerned, they are top o the line. :)

Funny thing is, she gives me heck about smoking cigars, then buys the humidors. :)

My wife maybe one who would use it. But I have a database with my own ratings. Usually I leave a printed copy around when the right occasion comes around.

From day to day, sometimes, I don't know what I want. My wife loves me, she lets me do/spend whatever I want with the cigars, but her buying them for me would be like me trying to figure out what shoes she wants today. Ain't gonna happen. It'd be like when your kids decide to buy tools for you. That's why I have 8 hammers and 10 screwdriver sets. Even if she looked at my selections on a registry, I'd get "this one is black, like the other one you wanted. The guy at the drug store said Black and Mild was just as good as that Olivia thingie you wanted, and it costs a lot less ..."

LMAO at snowwolf777...........wondering what our individual facial expressions would be like in response to our wives/SO's saying, "The guy at the drug store said Black and Mild was just as good as that Olivia thingie you wanted, and it costs a lot less ..."
