Any scientists out there? (PG/H20 mix)

We start out with 50/50, and it goes downhill from there as water evaporates, which we replace with distilled water when needed. We are apparently rarely at the 50/50 mark after we take it out of the bottle and put it in the credo. Should we start out with a higher % water mix?

I don't think so ... that is what is recommended, and anything else just gets a little too scientific, if you ask me.

This is not an exact science, you know ... and I personally don't think it really matters that much, if you just keep it reccharged with distilled water.

They do recommend using the PG50 solution every three months or so ...

slim is correct.

relax and enjoy your cigars. 65% to 70% is fine. did you calibrate your hygrometer? if not, you really don't know where you are.

I have read that the PG is essentially inert. That is it doesn't evaporate or really go anywhere and lasts almost indefinitely, whereas the distilled water does. That's evidently why you would not want to add 50/50 very often. The PG will accumulate over time so that your ratio is changing more and more to the PG. As I've posted before if high RH is a problem you may want to go more weighted with the PG since it will tend to absorb excessive moisture, but when ambient RH is "normal" with a high PG ratio your credo would literally be drying out your cigars.

Just my understnding of the process...............

arwings

you seem to understand the proicess well.

things to remember. when adding distilled water, don't add so much that a solution drips out the back(if you are using a credo type humidifier) some of the solution, 50% is pg.

i use only soap dish humidifiers, so i just dump distilled water in the dish. i also do not cover the soap (tupper) containers. if you want the maximum amount of pg available to do it's job, why drill a bunch of holes in the cover and put the covers on the containers.

I didn't actually have a problem with humidity. My cigars and humidity are fine, and hygrometers accurate --- the only problem I have is maybe being bored and thinking too much.
My question was from the point of view of having dry air, and knowing that the water will eventually evaporate from the reservoir, not the other way 'round. I didn't ask the question very well. My indoor air is almost always dryish, from the A/C in the summer and from heating in the winter. I just wondered if a higher % water would make more water available in the reservoir, requiring less frequent replenishing. (Which agrees with your advice to use more PG in humid climes.)
Thanks for your comments.
