Cigar friendly establishments

Just need to vent a little here. My fiancee and I went out to an early dinner tonight and decided to have a few drinks afterwards at a new local watering hole. I had heard from a few freinds that the place is supposed to be cigar friendly. It happens to be two doors down from my local tabaconist, so I frigured what better place to go. We got there around 7:30pm and sat at the bar. We ordered a few drinks and soon afterwards I proceeded to light up an Acid (blondie). Within 10 minutes a guy comes up to me, introduces himself as the manager and politely asked me to extinguish the cigar. I mentioned to him that I was unaware of the no somking rule and if there was such a rule, why were there ashtrays at the bar and several people smoking cigarretes in plain sight. He informed me how the establishment allows smoking but cigar smoking is only allowed after 9:30pm. His reason was that the people dinning might be disturbed (nevermind that the dinning tables were in the other room). I quickly reminded him the the smoke from the 5-6 people smoking the cigarrets is proabably more than the smoke of my cigar. Needless to say I didn't get anywhere with that one. I mentioned to him how I was told that they were supposed to be cigar freindly. He quickly agreed that they were in fact cigar friendly just after 9:30pm. I thanked him but told him I don't need friends like that, paid for our drinks and left.
I hate it when people false advertise or manipulte words so that they don't have to stand up to the true meaning of what they say. This is just another example, just like all the FREE stuff that some companies would have you believe that they are willing to give you with no strings attached. That's not right.

Trying to find a cigar-friendly restaurant in NY is like trying to find the last unicorn, it just ain't gonna happen. Very few places in NYC and the surrounding areas are cigar friendly. Cigars are ALWAYS welcome at a golf course, and almost always welcome at the sports bars. Unfortunately, the smoke nazis accept cigarettes and their horrific odor, but stereotypically discriminate against cigars. When people think of cigars, they're not thinking of the aroma that comes off the cigar, but the stench of an extinguished cigar sitting in an ashtray (which will turn anyone's stomach). Explaining this to the "offended" won't do any good because in their minds they've already decided and they are no longer listening to you. Keep up the good fight brother :)

CALIF DOESN'T WANT PEOPLE SMOKING ANYWHERE. NOT EVEN IN CLUB MEMBER ONLY BARS. A LOT OF THE RESTERAUNTS HAVE BUILT OUTSIDE EATING AREAS AND THOSE PLACES DON'T DESCRIMINATE BETWEEN CIGARS, PIPES, OR CIGARETTES. VEGAS IS THE PLACE. THEY HAVE LITTLE SECTIONS FOR NON-SMOKERS IN THE CASINO'S AND RESTAURANTS SO THEY CAN FEEL LIKE OUTCASTS AND THE REST OF US NORMAL PEOPLE CAN DO WHAT WE WANT. ONLY ONE HOTEL HAS A COFFEE SHOP THAT DOESN'T ALLOW CIGARS, BUT THEY MAKE SUCH GREAT CHINESE FOOD IT'S WORTH WAITING. 50 FEET AWAY THEY HAVE A CUPPACCINO BAR SO IT'S A SHORT WALK TO FINISH DINER PROPERLY.

try the Outback Steakhouse. I bet my wife I could take a nine inch Montecristo Taj Mahal and smoke it there. Last time there I asked and was told I could smoke cigars there, so next time we go, I shall take full advantage of their kindness. You think it bad in California, and I agree it is bad, but even worse in the People's Republic of Boulder CO. There and Broomfield in the last election a measure passed where even outside at dining establishments one could not smoke. But California is where the anti smoking trends start and moves eastwards, soon these fascist laws will probably spread around the nation, I mean it certainly won't get better, little by little these little commy nannies want to take away more and more. To take the cliche from liberals, it is tobacco McCarthyism. Another reason why I can't understand why any cigar smoker here puts himself in the democratic camp with their anti tobacco extremism. I mean help me, forget the tax issues, forget the touchy feely crap, what makes a cigar smoker, or better yet a cigar aficianado, want to be a democrat? When people in your camp want nothing more than to rid this country of it or in the least tax it to death? You are in the same camp as Rob Reiner who pushed through the anti tobacco measures in California. Though I guess I have the radical anti abortionist in my camp. But the democrats also have the anti capitalist, anti free trade, socialists (or progessives as they call themselves now, I call it progressing down the road towards socialism) environmental whackos, and a whole bunch of other extremist nuts.

Aberdeen, It is a bit suprising to hear such a diatribe and fascist statements from you. However I have come to expect them from Republicans on these boards. As a Democrat cigar smoker, I enjoy nothing more than enjoying a cigar at a public establishment. I know many Democrats that share my views. To say that Democrats are anti-capitalist is incorrect as is it to say they are anti-free trade. Nor would I say that the Democrats are more extremist than Republicans. Clinton has worked to open global relations and is the first President to make a move toward normalization of relations with Cuba. McCarthy was a republican incidentally.

Ya know, I've always been the first to go up to someone who's out and about smokin' a cigar (and occassionally a pipe smoker) and tell them that I've enjoyed the aroma or that I love the smell, etc...It's those stinkin' cigarettes that drive me crazy, they smell terrible! The problem I see is that there are people out there with legitimate smoke issues (allergies, asthma, etc that can be 'set off' by smoke) BUT there are others that just plain don't like your right to smoke. They will make all sorts of jestures and noises to show disapproval which then just fuels the fire. The smokers mostly get offended and/or rude by being asked to extinguish it, move, leave etc. Noone's happy. Both parties feel subjected to violation of their rights. California just plain took smoker's rights away. There HAS to be another solution. Everybody shouldn't have to be confined to their homes to smoke or to get away from it. And unless you're willing to open up a cigar-friendly establishment yourself and/or lobby for the cause, I guess you'll have to endure it. I suppose what I'm trying to say with all this 'innane chatter' and 'rubbish' is that well, you may be inconvenienced to have to go to another cigar-friendly establishment, but you should make every effort to support those out there who welcome you. I don't give a penny to business' that I differ with on certain issues or was treated poorly at. Hang in there and hit 'em where it hurts...Of course, that's IMHO. wink-wink!

Unklebill, you quoted me completely out of context, I said you are as a democrat in the same camp as the anti capitalist, anti free trade, anti tobacco nazis, and other sorts of radical groups. I did not say, ALL democrats are like that, and I specifically asked, why as a cigar smoker you would be allied to these groups, what other factors overide you holding hands with Rob Reiner? I also admitted there are extremist in the right, which nobody has to say, as the media tells me of that fact every day, while doing the dance with the far left.

yes McCarthy was a Republican, and in fact right most of the time, but the democrats sure seem to have taken a liking to his name.

I AM IN THE WHITTIER AND LA HABRA AREA. I'M SURE WE PASSED BY EACH OTHER AT SOME TIME AND SAID TO OURSELVES, "THE CIGAR THAT GUY WAS SMOKING SMELLED GOOD."
