This is so sad...

My cousin was killed last Friday by asphyxiation. Her name was Sarah and she was only 17. I just found out Sunday night about midnight and didn't want to mention it. But after my ordeal today...

I was in court today for the arraingment of the 18 yo boy (best friend) that killed her...

I don't know what I'm trying to convey...I'm just so sad.

The media was up in our faces. The DA read part of the boy's statement which we were unprepared to hear...it's unfathomable...hug your kids and/or significant others tonight...

Thank you BJ...I in no way mean to stop the regular cigar thoughts and posts...but being a part of this campfire community, I had to vent or purge or whatever to my buddies here..I'm just trying to get it out of me...

My hubby isn't ready to hear about it and I'm devasted.

Really sorry to hear that, E. My wife lost a step-sister in a similar manner a few years ago. I can't even imagine what it must be like. Fingers crossed for swift justice.

Marla,

You know as well as I do that the cigar experience is as much about the relatioships formed and fostered as it is the cigar.

Let it out, Ms. Marla...let it out.

Marla,

Sorry about your loss and the added attention you got from it. The death of a loved one is hard. Understanding the violence is even harder. You are in our prayers.

Marla,

if the inflamatory statements are what I am thinking the way these kids get-off or try to tragedly ends in someones death. Sometimes the kids are alone performing this act and sometimes they are with partners. Either way they need to be educated on this subject as do parents.

As always you and your family are in my prayers.

Marla,
I am deeply sadened by your loss. It's such a shame to lose someone that young to such a horrible event. When I was in highschool, a similar situation happened to one of my friends. Her father now goes to hundreds of different highschools talking about relationship violence prevention. The **** was up for parol not too long ago... My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family. This really hits home with me.

I am so touched by your words...both here and on HP...thank you so much!

I'll be able to shed more light on this later, but for now, we don't know all of the info.

Apparently, the boy is autistic and my have an 'excuse'...I am trying not to rush to judgement as my cousin (the father) is.

He's taught me a valuable lesson: patience.

Time will tell.

Thank you again for "listening" to me...

Once again, thank you all...

Here's a link to one of the newspaper articles if you care to read about it:

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/metro/20030924-9999_1m24strangle.html

It is pretty much as it is stated there. I was the one that gasping in the court room and was totally unprepared for what the prosecutor made known of what Grant said in his statement...I am in complete shock.

I know this is much more charged of an experience for all of those involved than the news report described (kudos to the journalistic treatment of the story so far, I guess).

This has to be...hell, who am I to come up with a word for it. There is a loss and the one who took the person from you has "issues" that doesn't make things any clearer for anyone.

I pray that you and your family have people close who either say the right things or at least remain silent so as not to say the wrong ones. Mostly, I hope that someone is present who brings you all peace.

Wait...there is more.
I have had a similar event in my family. I believe God has put us here for a purpose....when our job is done..God rewards us...some of us get our job done earlier than others...and they are rewarded sooner, with eternal salvation. She has been rewarded.

I read the article. Tragic. I wish the best for you and your family. It hits harder when the people involved are all close.

Regardless of any redemming qualities this person may have, Grant Macklem has cashed in his human card. He should no longer be allowed to re-join the human race. Unfortunately, in a liberal court system that California operates, he will unlikely have to face death for his crime. There is no rehabilitation possible with this one.

Marla,

I am soooooo "Very Sorry" for the tragedy. No Words Could Ever Express my Sympathy to you and your family.

While on the operating table last month they lost me. My heart stopped for 2 minutes and some change...What I saw and what I felt was indescribably. I cannot tell you in simple words the absolute peace and understanding that I felt…. it was a divine.

Rest Well Tonight knowing that she is resting well! You will be in my prayers.

With My Deepest Sympathy,

Your Friend - Billy

Once again, thank you all for the support.

Nothing new now. The pre-trial or prelimanary hearing(or whatever that's called) is Nov. 6th.

This is the link to keep updated on:

http://search.signonsandiego.com/search?q=sarah+beagles&ie=&site=sosd_collection&output=xml_no_dtd&client=sosd_collection&lr=&proxystylesheet=sosd_collection&oe=&filter=0

Or you can do a search on signonsandiego's site under the boy's name...

We are still reeling...

BTW, to put a face to this tragedy...although the pic isn't the best...

Go to San Diego's Spreckles Organ Pavillion's site

http://sosorgan.com/

Click on July 7th, 2003 A CELTIC EVENING

Scroll down to the smaller cluster of 6 pics.

The top left pic has several girls doing a Highland dance...Sarah is the blonde on our far left. This was her last public performance. She was an accomplished dancer and traveled extensively for performances and competitions.

In the larger pic on the top of the page with the bag pipers, the man in front on our left is set to perform at her service. I think he is the number 1 or 2 bag piper in the Nation.

^^^Top^^^

I wanted to bring this back to the top since it's been on my mind for the past few weeks.

:(

The murder trial start date has been changed twice now and is set to start 9-07-04.

My cousin and his wife are still supportive of Grant and his parents. They are hoping to set a precedent with this case in the attempt to help people with Asperger Syndrome and/or Autism.

They've spoken by phone to Grant (who's in jail charged with sex by force, rape, and murder - on $1,500,00.00 bail) and let him know that they are not angry...but disappointed. And that they want him to get help and to stay in a locked up facility.

I don't know if they are Saints or just plain stupid...to have that kind of forgiveness and compassion is unfortunately, beyond me.

The prosecuting DA is seeking the death penalty with special circumstances...that's more to my liking, but I just want to be in court to show the Judge and Jury my support of my family's stand. It was after all THEIR daughter.

Thanks for the kind words to my original post here and also for letting me get this off of my chest.

Keep my family, Grant and his family and the powers that be in Court in your thoughts and prayers in the coming weeks.

Marla

ps...if you go here, you can see the actual charges, etc...

An unbelievable tragedy, I am so sorry for you and your family.

Perhaps your cousins are so traumatized by their loss that just can't deal with the punishment of a criminal. I understand their wish to get the killer help, but I lean to your argument. If we really want to help some one, there are many folks that law abiding, non-violent and far more deserving. When the crime is murder, the welfare of society is more important than that of the individual.

Our prayers are with you.

I'm sorry, Sugarpie. There are a rare few experiences that qualify as Hell on Earth, and this is one. It's a never-ending struggle for many involved just to try to come up with some kind of "Why?" answer that will let them sleep at night. To install some sense where none really exists. I will be glad for you all when this is finally finished. Or as finished as it can be.
