I have noticed that it has been some time since CI has run a blowouts or closeout special. Is it that these leftover cigars from the boom are finally starting to dry up? I kind of hope so, as I was tempted too many times early last year with these specials and am finally starting to clear my cabinet of what were mostly dogs, a few notable exceptions of course like the nice 5 Vegas run.

i for one found some real gems for $15 or 20 a box. one thing you can bet ,as soon as the close outs are gone some of the big brands like ashton, montecristo and macando will jack up their prices.

I don't really agree...When the supply is greater than the demand the price goes down whether they are "closeouts" or "premiums". I think cigars will be getting cheaper with or without the closeouts.

I also think that the cigar smokers today after the wanna be's and trendy types stopped smoking cigars, are more cigar educated and will not pay a high price for a cigar unless it is really worth it. You can get a great cigar now for $2 or $3, cigar companies that think they can price cigars for $10 a piece or even $7 better be careful, or they will find themselves in the closeout section of cigar catalogs.

Well said, I have rarely paid 7 to 10 dollars for a cigar and the ones I've smoked were not worth it. I love cigars and smoke everyday but I am on a tight budget since having my son. I'd rather spend $2 for a fine cigar and get my son 5 Hot Wheels. I have a beer budget AND a beer taste :)

I love Hot Wheels. Do you have the Loop-to-loop track? Now that I have a son, I wish I kept all my Matchbox Cars...

Oh yea...got the loop to loop for christmas, LOL! He loves it. I also spent the time to get all the 1999 First Editions (with variations) for him. I am building a display case for them. I also had tons of HWs and Matchboxes when I was little....they're worth a lot now, wish I has kept some.

As I signed into Cigarbid today I was thinking the same thing. I think it has dried up quite a bit, but cigar prices will, hopefully, continue to decline!

Why is it that Fuente family can't get it through thier thick skulls that they can't charge $10-$15 per stick!! LOL

I think you guys might be right about cigar prices falling. Even in the UK where tobacco taxes are at a rate that makes your heart want to stop, You can now buy some brands(not all)of cubans that are only £40-£50 per box more than in Spain. Not too long ago the same boxes were around £100 or so more...I am sure that supply is catching up with demand! It makes your flight charges to spain that much more expensive...unless you go for top end stuff, which can still be up to £300-£400 per box cheaper over there than here. The good thing is now with the european common market you are allowed to bring in 300 sticks legally, so one batch could save you up to £3600...but you are still laying out big bucks, because once you have brought them back with you, you are breaking the law if they are not for you own consumption, however I KNOW that even some of the most reputable dealers here sell cigars that have been brought into the country for personal consumtion. I am not trying to be clever, because I know the problems you have over there with the embargo on goods from Cuba, but do you chaps suffer similar problems with cigars made outside of cuba?

Hey AJ. I think you ARE trying to be clever. What sort of similar problems do you think we "chaps" could possibly have with non-cuban smokes? If they aren't Cuban, why bloody hell would we smuggle them into the country? C'mon, you Can't Really be a limey. You have no accent! Jolly Ho, ol' chum. and Tally hoo to you to....

I too like to smoke a 2-$3 stick every day. I still collect an occasional $5-$8 smoke for collecting? Most of the time they aren't any better than the $2-$3 ones but they look good in the humidor.

his point is that the supply is to at or below the demand, hence prices will rise. we better all begin to forget about those $25/ box deals they'll be few and far between.

Tailgater,
firstly not everyone in Engalnd speaks with plums in their mouths, only the hoorar henry's...secondly the smuggling of tobacco in general into the UK is done because of the high rate of tax inposed by the british government, Tobacco smuggling is a masive problem in the UK, with France only 22 miles away at it's closest point. The government indicates that one in five 20 pack of ciggarettes sold in here has been smuggled, and is "Costing" them billions a year in lost revenues.
I wondered weather or not you had similar problems, maybe tobacco costs less in South America than USA?...that was where I was coming from, I genuinely was not taking the P**s!...yes we have the opportunity to buy cubans here, but is a very expensive hobby unless you break the Law. A Trinidad for instance costs between £40-£80($60-$120) sterling per stick depending on your source on your source in the UK but can be bought in Spain for much less...I raised a genuine point and was looking for a serious answer.
Brent, I got your mail, sorry I have not responded, I will do shortly.
Oh and tailgater...just for you ..."Chocks away", "To the fore", and "toodle Pip" for now!

Tailgater you are a one!...Toodle pip actually means goodbye!...as for poor old benny(God rest his soul), as your fellow country man says...he his "smokin his reefer in the sky"...and no, unless you were in the tower at the houses of parliment, you would not be able to see Big Ben, as that is the name of the bell in the tower...not the tower itself...anything else you would like to know about the green and pleasent land?

40-80 pounds per stick? I challenge you to show me one place that sells a Trinidad for half that. If you cannot, I will sell them to you for that price.

when will bleeding heart Tony Blair learn? Tabacco taxes went through the roof in Canada and cigarette smuggling became a big problem, as it did in a few states here. Politicians seem to assume that if you raise taxes, more revenue will come in, when actually that is far from the truth. Canada did learn and lowered its cigarette tax, though cigar taxes remain high.
