So there's a sign on the wall of our local California DMV:
"It is unlawful to bribe or threaten State employees."
Really? Hmm. I thought it was unlawful to threaten anybody. Why would State employees require a special law just for them? Could it be because they're threatened at a higher rate than normal people because they're rude, lazy, arrogant, smug, incompetent morons, and people frequently get frustrated by their buffoonery?
Nah, couldn't be!
Case in point: My wife suffered a series of seizures one afternoon about eight months ago. A parade of EKG's, EEG's, MRI's and blood tests revealed absolutely nothing. Getting her neurologist's office staff to perform any such complex tasks as making an appointment or sending out forms in a timely manner proved to be impossible, but that's another story.
After fiddling with her medication dosage a bit, he finally released her to drive, and we've been waiting nearly THREE FRIGGIN’ MONTHS for her forms to move from one desk at the DMV to another, I kid you not. Finally some clown calls her for a reinstatement hearing, which took place last Wednesday before the New Year holiday. He said, "I'll make a note on your paperwork to call you--probably on Monday, but I promise no later than Tuesday."
Trust me, we were ready to celebrate right then. If you've never lost your driving privilege, it sucks moose. I don't know how she's dealt with it all this time. A few highlights:
1. She can only work part time right now, because what used to be a 10 minute commute now takes 90 minutes (or longer) on the bus. One way.
2. The bus doesn't go everywhere, so that limits the number of jobs you can even apply for.
3. As soon as prospective employers find out you're taking the bus, they suddenly "have a bunch more applications to consider. We'll be making a decision some time next week."
4. Christmas sucks when you're broke.
5. Speaking of the bus, do you know who rides the bus? Homeless schizophrenic drunks who haven't bathed in months, for one. Not to mention standing alone at bus stops at night, in the cold/wind/rain because the city doesn't bother to cover all of them.
So last Monday, no call. She calls and leaves a voicemail Monday afternoon (after being told by another employee that he was definitely in the office). No response. Today she leaves two messages. Guess what? No response.
She can't get this moron to do her a simple courtesy, let alone do his friggin' job right. I hope Arnold's budget cuts are deep and wide. I hope this idiot gets laid off first. Then I hope we see him out in public somewhere.
When he's not a State employee anymore.
