NEW YORK (AP) - Martha Stewart was convicted Friday of obstructing justice and lying to the government about a superbly timed stock sale, a devastating verdict that probably means prison for the woman who epitomizes meticulous homemaking and gracious living.

I wonder if she'll get to decorate her girlfriend's jail cell?

DMV's right on.
How did her trial go so fast when the other corporate frauds are still out there?

This is a good start, and a great precedent.

sentencing is June 17th

wondering what kind of prison time she will do - you would think she would have to do some time.

yes, she will probably bring out a line of prison sheets, pillowcases, blankets, towels etc. also she could start a arts and crafts department so the other inmates could make nice arts n crafts for their families =x

She'll probably only have to do community service.

I'd be happy to let her mow my yard, while I sip lemonade and read her magazine.

Oh no... this is going to put my wife in a severe state of depression. I cant wait to see how she does with sprucing up the prison grounds and cuisine.

What a blow

from what I'm hearing she is more than likely to get sentenced to 16 months in a federal prison - all indications is that she will do time inside prison and not get out of it with something poshy

I heard 16 mos. min. too from Judge Pollitano (sp). He said federal guidelines dictate this with no exception.

Wouldn't she go to Club Fed, though and not serve with the violent femmes?

yes I also heard she will probably go to one of those cushy fed places - but at least she will be behind bars and not just doing public service that is what counts!

she has to go to a medium security and share a room. I f she does't win on appeal, I think the judge will offer to throw the conviction out to some degree after the jurrors started making some alarming post trial remarks

i gotta say, though... the way she clawed her way up from obscurity, i think martha's gonna hold her own in prison -- especially Club Fed.

like her or hate her or whatever, i've gotta say a prayer for the old gal. that's got to shake you right to the very core to go from being as high up there as she's been and to fall so low and so hard -- not only does she have to go to prison (cushy or not, it's prison), but she basically is totally booted out of her OWN COMPANY -- a company she built from scratch and one that has her name on it. hell, the company *IS* her.

it would be like, say, elvis presley getting kicked off of his own songs, you know? he IS the product -- his voice and talent. same with martha -- she IS the product. and that makes me wonder how the hell the company's going to go anywhere now.

is Martha Stewart Living magazine going to come out with The Prison Editions? 101 ways to mix-and-match those prison greys? how to make luxurious hair conditioner by mixing in a dallop of "S*** On A Shingle" from dinner?

anyway. yeah, she's done screwed over a lot of folks and climbed the ladder brutally, but there's still part of me that feels bad for her.

The sad thing is that so many have done what she did and much worse and got away with it. I think put in the same situation, I probably would have dumped the stock but been truthful with the SEC investigators and not try and cover up anything, taking whatever consequences came with that and chack it up to an error in judgement. What would you have done??
Does this change your mind about how to react when given this kind of information?
