I know there are many vets here, can anyone tell me if this is fake or not, are they really blocking out websites on the base??

I am a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force. Clinton was my first Commander In Chief, and now Bush is it. During the 2000 election, I noticed that 98% of my unit was anti-Clinton and pro-anyone republican. I have never voted republican so I of course was going to vote for Gore in 2000. I saw Bush as being an imbecile then, and he is an even bigger one in my eyes now.

I was in the war during the bombing campaign in the first four months, and I was very proud of what I was doing. Now that I have been home for quite a while, I am hard set againsed the war. When I was a part of it, quite obviously I was brain washed by my commander in chief into thinking that Saddam was going to attack us by means of weapons of mass destruction. So there I was, ordered to drop an obscene amount of bombs pre-emptively on Iraq, and proud to do so. Now quite obviously my commander in chief was exploiting what I signed up to do for a living. And exploiting what my sister services do for a living. I belive we are in this for all the wrong reasons, and two of my friends lost thier lives because of it.

So now I have the opportunity to vote out my commander in chief. The Air Force has been promoting voting from the get go, and really wants all of us airmen to partake in our right to do so. However, they are very Anti-Kerry, and Anti-Democrat. And here they are saying how important it is that we have the right to vote for our boss. Ever since I have made it known in my squadron that I am voting for John Kerry, I have been shunned, not invited to squadron functions, ridiculed, and not promoted. When using the government computers, I frequently visit cnn.com to get the latest on political news. Well guess what, the Air Force at my base has filtered out any website that has anything to do with politics or religion. That is including johnkerry.com. But here is the kicker. I can log onto georgebush.com as much as I like. I have even been ordered to remove the John Kerry Sticker off of my vehicle.

I love the Air Force, I love my country, and I love my job. I am extremely disappointed in those who are pretty much ordering me to vote thier way. The military is brain washing its members to vote thier way.

I don't know where this person is stationed but I have no problem getting to the johnkerry.com website from a computer on an air force base. As far as bumper stickers go, I don't know of any policy that prevents people from having them on their cars. I see a few kerry/edwards stickers when I walk through parking lots and I see a few bush/cheney stickers.

The military has always (in my 27 years) been pro-voting. Every unit has a voting officer assigned and they are very agressive about getting everyone registered to vote. Voter registration stands are frequently set up in common areas such as the commissary and base exchange. These are always done as non-partisan and no candidate literature is provided.

That's been my experience with the air force.

I will also say that the incumbent (democrat or republican) always has a bit of a leg up as far as campaigning goes. Political rallies are forbidden on base but the commander in chief can visit the troops whenever he likes. Military folks also have to be a bit cautious about how they speak about the current president because he is the top of their chain of command. Simply stating that you plan to vote for a particular candidate would not violate any rules that I'm aware of.

I actually left the Air Force as a Staff Sergeant in 2000. I can't see how any of this can be true. Well, he may be shunned (socially), I guess, because of his political tendencies, but that's about it. That'll happen anywhere, though. The Air Force has been too politically correct to allow the kind of behavior this story is describing. Unless a lot has changed in the last four years, this story is a load of crap. Where did you find it?

This is a Crock of Crap....

probably originated on a forum somewhere??

I loaded and know dropped Tons of Bombs on Iraq and Afghanistan during a few deployments in my career.. I was proud of it then and proud of it now.. what was taken out by air didn't have to risk the lives to take it out by ground!!!!

As far as harassment my previous supervisor just came on board in his position when the Bush/Gore 2000 Elections were going on... I had a couple Bush stickers and a Christian sticker along with a few Harley stickers under my glass on my desk...(personal area) right?
My supervisor one day had removed the bush and my christian sticker out from under my glass... I thought it was one of my co-workers when I seen it later in the day after returning from a job.. so I questioned who the Jack-Off was who was messing with my desk? well guess what one of the co-workers said the boss came in and removed them... So I went in and discussed this with the boss... I asked him if he needed a scraper to take the bumper stickers off my car also? he tried to use this as not being appropriate material to be on desk tops, my counter was are you going to tell so and so to remove his naked women cut outs from under his glass? and so and so to remove theirs also? If your going to fleece the area.. Fleece it all the way not just what "YOU" like and don't like... I also brought this up in the morning meeting for discussion the next day... with the regulations to back up my statements...
Military members are restricted from political forums in public while in Uniform... This does not mean they cannot have their freedom of speach taken away any other times... My Bush stickers went back on my desk along with my Christian sticker...and an apology was made...

as far as this guy being singled out and picked on.. thats BS also... the computer restrictions.. Yep the military has them for reasons.. Yahoo,CNN,FoxNews,Hotmail,EBay, any other affiliated site that may allow a person to vulnerable websites are restricted... as far as political websites I don't know? but one must keep in mind this is Government property and they have a right to filter the users on these computers...

This frickin Whiner needs to complete his enlistment and locate him a job at shell oil pumping gas or something....

just for grins I did a check on yahoo for the URL for the green party and the communist party. I was able to access both of those sites as well from my government PC. Of course, I probably just set off some red flag on the base computer network and the men in black suits are going to be coming for me at any minute.

Oh yeah, there are a lot of sites that are blocked. hotmail, yahoo mail, most auction sites, music sites, etc are blocked. I'm actually surprised I can still access CBID. I can't access CI from my work PC.

Thanks for setting it straight for me, I got it in a e-mail from a friend that asked me if this could be done (URL BLOCKING) and I told them yes, but wanted to see if it was true because I know many Vets here and they would know if this stuff was being done or not.

Thanks again
