How many poll questions have I created? Too many for your liking, Crypt Keeper?

I think you actually died a few days ago, but the connection between your brain and your jaws was never really all that strong when you were alive.

So very true, 8. Also, true about the interest generated by the 500 threads. Rambo, you used to tell me that & I didn't fully believe it till now.

Time for gyros... Wife's picking them up at the local Orthodox church festival.

Man, bloody, the mention of gyros has me wishing for my days in Greece.

Nothing better than souvlaki. Nectar of the (Greek) gods, I say.

Had gyro and fries yesterday. I called it carbo loading for the marathon.

Yesterday at work we were talking about pizza places. My buddy Juan is a pizza connoisseur. He recommended a place called Filippi's Pizza Grotto. Prolly gonna give that a try today.

That's where I was. Souda Bay.

Downtown Chania was always fun. El Mundo's, The Fun Pub... two great places to party.

If a grotto is the subject matter, we should really consult ScottHar on this.

I don't recall any true grotto aspect to it. Just really good Italian food, especially pizza.

Used to like a place call Stuft Pizza as well. They had the microbrewery thing going on but it looks like they're now called Oggi's.

I spent months running around there. I was part of the Nike Hercules live fire team and went down there a month out of every year for many years.
There are still entire weeks missing from my life due to Metaxa. UZO has destroyed more brain cells then I care to know.
In my day a handful of Drachma's would keep a guy happy for weeks.
Thanks for the memories.....

Thanks for the memories is right. I got married in a small Byzantine church on a mount in Athens back in 1987. Got a beautiful suite & reception at the Athens Hilton. Then vacationed on the surrounding islands. Last "vacation" I ever got. Little did I know.

Metaxa is great for some Greek recipes such as sweets or so my bride says. Ouzo... what can I say about Ouzo that you haven't already said. Oh, yes, the only time I've ever vomited blood is after drinking lots of Ouzo. Still enjoy on occasion & in moderation mixed with water. Most house Greek wines I've tasted were pleasant but had a resin-like aftertaste to me.

I also remember exchanging 138 drachmas per dollar back in '87 but I believe nowadays the dollar has taken a bit of a beating and the new currency (Euro) is worth about $1.20 but HD would know the exchange rate better than I.

Where have all the years gone?

I have a bottle of Metaxa I break out every one in a great while. I always liked the 7 star better but have not seen it in a long while.
I have not had any Ouzo(thanks for the spelling) in 20 years, I'm not sure if it is lack of availability here or fear....LOL!

The pizza was very cheesy. Lots of cheese. So much that it was heavy. Taste? Meh. The crust was like cardboard. I've had better toppings, too. Sauce was just so-so. I ate 2 pieces if that tells you anything. My wife had half a piece. The rest is still sitting in the box downstairs.

I may or may not decide to reheat it and try it again. Most certainly not going back. I'd rather have round table.

It is just starting to sink in. I need to learn to drive on the left side of the road by the time this flight lands. Soon to leave the gate. Wifi once in the air. Will check back. So far all I can think of is drink heavily.
