An Engineer's Humidity Question

I try to keep my whole house at 70 degrees and 70RH all the time so my cigars won't go into shock when I take them out of the humi. Then I realized, when I light them, the heat from the lit end is probably driving the humidity in the leaf below 70%! It may be counteracted somewhat by my mouth moisture on the other end, but I am really concerned that as I smoke the internal humidity of the cigar may fall below 70.

I have thought of using an atomizeur or one of those plastic spritzers from Walmart between puffs. Should I use half and half in the spritzer or just distilled water? Should I use a double spritz or a single?

Does anyone make a hygrometer that I can insert in the cigar, sort of like a cooking thermometer into a turkey, to check it as I go? I think it would be a good idea to build a hygrometer into each cigar, just like those Butterball turkey plastic thingies, that would pop-up when the humidity got down into the danger zone, you know, like, god forbid, 68-69RH. You don't think I am being to fanatical about this . . . do ya?

ROTFLMAO, But seriously EL, your jest has become a reality. A wet/dry hygromter that you stick in the end of your cigar like a meat thermo. Just can't leave it in there while smoking. Barry

I wonder if Bill Clinton considered the moisture ramifications before smoking that infamous Churchill?

eltea---you of all people should know RH is BS. humidity is all that matters. --- if you don't get moisture, you are not doing a good job.---there are several rectal thermometers available to check temp and if you believe in RH and have a slide rule, you should be able to calculate RH which is also a factor in the health of newborn babies.---CA sends me a magazine every week, which i did not pay for and don't really care for, however there is a new taste available besides coffee, leather, woody, and peaches and cream. it is the overtone of "a hint of brassy". funny i usually taste banana fudge chunk because i eat the dryers ice cream when i smoke a cheap cigar. i also tast malt, because toby found a site that sells horlock's and i sprinkle that on the icecream.---a few questions.---are the girls at the nail shops allowed to celebrate the 4th?---why don't people exchange gifts on the 4th?---why don't we always celebrate the 4th on a friday so every one can have a 3 day weekend?

Went to the neighbors behind us for the fireworks show. Found another neighbor (new one) smoking a cigar! I'll see how he acts and possibly draw him into the crowd. You gotta plan your passing out closer to the bedroom Jim!

Rick thanks for your well thought out response to my humidity difficulty. I guess a few misguided souls like X thought it was a spoof. But I have solved my problem. I smoke underwater now.

Eleltea....Actually I was purusing one of the many cigar catalogs that I get and happened to see a device that had a small probe on the front. I didn't really read too much but I gathered that you use this to test your 'gar to see if it is too moist or too dry or jus' right.
I usually wait till I am done with the 'gar and then make a decision about whether I should have smoked it or not...hhmmm...by then I guess it is too late so what the hell....smoke 'em if you got 'em...69

Fub, I saw that device. Really, I don't worry too much about humidity. I moisten my oasis with distilled H2O from time to time. I have learned by trial and error that Pre-Embargo Genuine Counterfeit Cubans and the regular GCC's, for a couple of examples, need to dry out a little or they won't draw for s**t. But I don't want anymore of those anyway. In a couple more years I expect to know which 5 smokes I want in my humidor and I will trade or give all the others away.

Rick's response to my post was, as usual, more clever than my post, and I am p***d off and will soon start a flame war, which I will most likely lose.
