stadium dilema

Here's the thing: The Patriots have played for 30 years at a stadium that would make a Texas High School ashamed. But I liked it. The gawd-awful bench seats were no problem because I always stood ALL game (last row in second section, nobody behind me directly). And I could allow other friends to sit in our section because you only had to skootch over a bit. Now, we've got what is by all accounts the best venue in all the NFL. Fan friendly in every way, except my new seats are one section higher and I will have people behind me. I won't be able to stand. I can no longer sneak friends into my section unless there are empty seats. But I'm excited nonetheless. So I'm asking for all opinions. Do I go to the preseason games to check out the stadium for the first time, or do I increase my anticipation by waiting until opening day, which happens to be the Monday Night Season Opener against some team from pittsburg (is that still a city?). You know what they say: "you always remember your first time". And I want this "first" to be more memorable than some of my others....

Tailgater, I say wait until 9/9 for the home opener against the Steelers. (I'm a Steeler fan, so that offsets being a Sox fan sometimes.)

Funny coincidence: I was in line buying concert tix at a Ticketmaster site the morning that all Pats' tix went on sale. Not being the avid football fanatic as everyone else, I was shocked to see soo many people lined up for TOOL and Sammy Hagar/David Lee Roth tix -- especially since most of them were wearing Pats t-shirts! Luckily, i got my tix but most games were sold out in 30 minutes or less.

Make your first time eventful - go to the home opener. But don't be surprised if Pitt whoops some butt to make up for their last loss last season...

First of all Teddy, pittsburg won't whoop anything in Foxboro on that exciting monday eve. But even if the Bus had wings and they did somehow win, do you think an opening game victory could even come close to making up for having their whole team have to cancel their trip to N'Awlins this past season? Face it, the steelers are doomed to be the best team that can't get it done. Bettis simply can not run against the Pats for some strange reason. And without a running game, Kordell falls to pieces. He's not capable of carrying his team on his shoulders, He's much more comfortable riding them from behind... (did I say that?)

being from cleveland i just when through the same mumbo jumbo a few years ago. believe me, all those feelings you had in regards to foxboro will disappear once you enter into the pats new digs. hopefully tho, the designers didn't add steam pipes under the field there like they did here. i'd hate to see the dolphins attempt a field goal on a clean field in december.

T-Gaiter, OUCH! True, going 1-0 in Sept is no cure for losing the AFC Championshiop game, but I'd rather win it than lose twice in a row to the "Patsies". Believe me, I congratulate NE for showing the League that they could hang with the best of them, even AFTER losing Drew. But there was a reason why they were always the Underdog (without Polly Purebred, of course!).

I was a Pitt/NE game a few years ago when NE had everything in hand until late in the 3rd Q: an interception, a fumble and next thing ya know, Pitt goes home with the victory. Doesn't take much for momentum to turn. Of course, January 1997 AFC Championship game left me a little disappointed also. "Fog Bowl" - first play from scrimmage was a fly pattern against Rod Woodson's reconstructed knee after coming off DL for entire year. That was a long day for the Black & Gold.

Nevertheless, I hope tailgating at CMGi will be just as fun as the former Schaefer Stadium and any time I go with my buddies, I'll be sure to keep my eyes peeled for a cigar-smoker and ask him, "Are you Tailgaiter?" -Ted

The Fog Bowl. Loudest game ever in Foxboro. Louder even than the following week's AFC Championship game over Jacksonville. But enough about the past. It truly will be tough for the Pats to repeat, but this season will be a blast no matter what. Bob Kraft has brought respectiblity to New England Football. Look at the typical riff raff in the league and then look at the Pats. For the record, I am going to the first preseason game against Philly. I traded my other preseason ticket to get an extra one so I can take my Daughter, who is 5. Memories are much more important than increased anticipation.

Do the pee pee dance a little bit longer for the opener. I think you'll be glad you did.

Go Texans!
