So far, 10 people have said they'd like to be participants in a weekly pool with a cigar per week going to the participant making the most correct predicitions of that week's NFL games. If you'd like to join us, please send me an e-mail ... (if you've already done so and your name doesn't appear below, send one entitled "Knocking You Upside The Head")

more guys signing up with others asking questions ... at this rate, it could be 15 or more players ... not a bad payout for the winner ... and, because I'm being asked for details, here's how it'll work

Each Tuesday I will send out a list of the matchups for that week ... by Friday of the week (or by Wed if there's a Thurs game), each participant will send me an e-mail predicting the winners of each game plus predicting the score of the MNF game ... winner will be the person predicting the most correct games with the score of the MNF game serving as a tie-breaker ... because I will send everyone a copy of all predictions ahead of game time, each participant will know all predictions of all the others in the group, making it possible for everyone to see on a game by game basis who's winning and who's not ... then, each Tues when the next matchups are sent out, the name/address of the previous week winner will also be sent ... a cigar will be sent to the weekly winner by each other member in the group ... most of the guys didn't want to send cigars every week, so we'll send them after week 4, 8, 12, and 17, then after the Super Bowl for the playoff games ... that way there'll be only 5 trips to the post office, but still the same number of cigars sent out ... maximum loss would be about 22 cigars over the course of the season for someone who didn't win at all on any week ... with 10 participating, winner each week will get 9 cigars, more if more guys sign up ...

since no one else would volunteer, I said I'd be the administrator for the price of one cigar from each player to cover the season ... gotta admit I've wondered about my sanity to do it for the price, considering that means 9 or ? cigars for 20 weeks of work, but hey, that's what I said going in, so what the hell ... and, maybe there'll be several more players so the total of all payoffs will be higher ... still, it's just one cigar per participant per week that's being wagered plus one to cover the admin ...

I figure we can take more players anytime someone else wants to join, so who knows how high it might go ... and probably, like most office pools, someone'll drop out, you never know ...

Is there going to be some "unwritten" rule as to the quality of cigar to send? I wouldn't want to see this as an opportunity for people to unload their dog rockets! I don't have the time to devote to it, just wanted to stir the sh*t and submit an opinion. It sounds like a great idea and I hope to maybe get in on the next one if this one is successful. Good luck to ya all!

No dog rockets ... but not super premium cigars, such as Opus X either ... we've agreed to send decent cigars ...

Oh, btw ... if you refrain from joining at the beginning (and if it sounds like fun, why would you?), feel free to jump in at any point along the way ... send me an e-mail saying you're in ... that's all it takes

right you are ...

But, you know something? ... that's just not been a worry for me ... maybe I'm naive, but maybe I don't expect any problems of that sort 'cause I know the guys that're in this thing ... hell, I've done trades with half the group that're in the pool right now and know for a fact that there won't be a problem with them ... and for some reason, I have complete trust the other half will be the same ...

How will you handle someone not sending you their prediction by the cut-off date? Will they sit out that week? Would we be seeing a list of who predicted what and how many 'gars they get and another column for who needs to send a cigar? Another maybe for cumulative totals? This is sounding really interesting and a lot of fun.

too many, GYO, too many ... believe it or not, when I found that SteveS was not an available addy, I actually thought that FromSteveS was clever ... as you so aptly point out, I've had to explain it FAR too often ... thanks for helping out on this one and saving me from having to do so ....
