I've kept my eyes open for a cabinet humi for a while but ddidnt find one I liked or within my price range, so change of plans, a project. Started looking at curio cabinets but they didnt fit the bill, plan C, a gun cabinet,,,,,,,,,,, BINGO!!!!!!!!!! Found this one for 100 and figure for another 100 I can line and shelve it and have a humidor big enough for my current collection.

I'm so stoked about this.

I will post a " In Progress" pic and a "I'm Finished" pic. Calling in the order for cedar tomorrow and have a weeks vacation in 2 weeks, guess what I'll be doing with my time off.

Would look good with boxes of ammo or 'gars, might have trouble deciding if it were mine! PS ammo don't really like 70%rh either!

Great idea, but...

... if it is just big enough for your current collection- you will need something bigger in a year or two!

Hope not, It's 6' tall and 24" wide. The bottom section will hold about 10 boxes and i'm thinking top will have at least 4 shelves with room for boxes on the bottom of it.

Nice!

One tip: MAKE SURE you remove ALL of the shot gun shells first. I would hate to think of someone mistaking one for a Nub and torturing it up . . . . .

How are you going to prevent the door from warping under higher humidity?
What are you going to do to seal the door so that the RH and temperature remain relatively stable?

Just curious b/c I am think of doing something similar with an armoire...

After I saw this, I went to Craigs List for our area, and found several very inexpensive gun cabinets. However, I am dangerous in the kitchen with knives... Tank will never let me play with power tools.

I dont think the door warping will be a problem. It's solid wood and the RH is around 50 to 60 normally here. The door also fits pretty snug already and if needed I can put some weather stripping around it to seal it better. I am using 1/2" thick cedar to line it wich will also help maintain the humidity.

Mrs Tank get Mr Tank to help you, nothing like doing a project together.

You trend setter.

My cabinet is roughly the same size.

Dublehub is very wise. You WILL run out of room.

It isn't a question of if, simply a matter of when...

You might need to stop on the 16th or if you are coming thru late on the 22nd for a b-day bombing, Waco would be a good time for a quick pit stop on your trip.

Well, trying to see if we can get Karin's boy outta school early. She doesn't want to take him out early. So, we'd leave SA around 3pm....heading to Ft. Worth. When we come back on 22nd, it may be from Tenn, on a 14 hour drive..
