Fuzz,
The very well known GM of the Boston Red Sox declined the White House offer when Dubya was in office.

Do you remember that?

No?
Oh yeah. Because no one said he was immature or self centered or UN-American.

Because, you know.
It was George Bush.

Don't tell me what I remember or not. I don't remember it. Probably the same stuff was said, just by different sides. I still think that this guy is a petulant child. He could have just not gone, but he put out a statement. He wanted attention and that's self centered. It's not a political event, it's the nation congratulating the team. Whoever doesn't go for political reasons and releases a statement about it is a petulant child. Very easy position to understand.

If I read another article correctly, he only made his comment on one of those social network things after the media covering it noticed he was not there. If this is correct then it was the white houses media that made the big deal about it. Just another sob story to get people to feel sorry for Barry cause he doesn't get the respect he demands from everyone.

Herfing Herfing Herfing Tim Thomas has been the best Goalie I've seen all year, and I can say this he should get man of the year award for showing kids that standing up for your rights is important not only when your young, but also as an adult. Herfing Herfing Herfing

You understand incorrectly. Not surprised.

"Thomas has drawn criticism — and praise — for the decision, which he posted at 6 p.m. Monday and says will be his final comment on the matter."

I didn't "tell you" what you remember.
See those question marks in my post you reference? Those do more than just imply that it's a question.

But I did assume.
And I was right.
And I was correct for the very reasons I mentioned.
You're just being too pig headed to see that.
But you haven't surprised me with your emotional outburst. You've simply reinforced what I suggested earlier.

So let me be clear.
I haven't jumped on you because you think Thomas is being a child. Oops sorry. A Petulant child. You even said it twice.
It was the Un-American tag that drew my responses.
I think Timmy should have gone. I question his reasons and his method. But I don't question his patriotism. Don't let your emotions get the best of you.
For the ONLY reason you have any opinion on this at all is based solely on your biased politics.
And that, my sad, petty friend, is a fact.

His comment was made after the team made the visit, that is what I understood. Sorry it's not what you want but that is the way it is.

Ok, I familiarized myself with the Epstein situation. He did not skip out on the White House ceremony in 2005, he was in the front row. He also did not release a political statement or protest in any way. He did not go in 2007, when asked he said it was because of 'family reasons' but again, no political attack or statement.

Now had he made it political the stories would be similar, they are not.

BOSTON -- A blogger at the conservative National Review, in discussing the decision by Bruins goalie Tim Thomas not to attend a White House ceremony honoring the Stanley Cup champions, said that former Red Sox GM Theo Epstein skipped both such ceremonies when the Red Sox won their World Series titles.

Not true. Epstein, who had made a campaign appearance on behalf of John Kerry, was not on the stage when President Bush honored the team in 2005, choosing to sit in the front row of the audience next to Stacy Lucchino, wife of the Sox CEO. The reason, he said, was because he wanted attention focused on those most deserving. And Epstein was with the group of players who subsequently visited wounded vets at the Walter Reed Medical Center.

Bush was still in office when the Sox won again in 2007. Epstein did not attend the ’08 ceremony, citing “family reasons,” and his absence barely registered. It was overshadowed by the no-show by Manny Ramirez, whose absence from the stage was noted by Bush himself.

"I’m sorry [Ortiz’s] running mate, Manny Ramirez, isn’t here,’’ the president said. “I guess his grandmother died again. Just kidding. Tell Manny I didn’t mean it.”

I don't agree with TT's decision to give it a pass. If I where in the same situation I would go regardless of what I thought of the POTUS in office.

I also think that it is an essential American act to exercise one's free speech. No matter how it's done within the rules of law and society.
