Funny thing is, that as nice and higher skilled and hard working and smart and "better than 90% of all Americans" (oh, brother), etc. these Sikhs are the equivalent of Asian Mexicans... The Sikh engineers at Bechtel were capable but took slots from Americans in order to fulfill the company's quotas & were paid less than the counterparts they replaced.

My wife remembers many a white male being laid off & replaced by a politically correct race or sex who was not necessarily as good nor experienced for a lower cost.

Such are the times soccer moms are creating for their sons... Welcome to the brave new world. Frying pan

Probably both, but IMHO, in this case it was mostly political correctness.

Bechtel was clever about it, waiting until a project had come to a conclusion & THEN laying off the white male instead of transferring him to an ongoing yet understaffed project until business picked up which it inevitably would. In the meantime, they were actively recruiting at job fairs all over the world especially in China & India.

Oh, and when it came to females especially non-white with advanced degrees- fuhgitabout it. They could write their own ticket regardless of skill level.
Some were pretty bad btw... but they had white untouchable male dinosaurs who would check their work...

I remember going to an awards banquet for Bechtel engineers (my wife was getting her 10yr? award- a pewter money clip), most uncomfortable time ever. Worse than sitting between Victor and TW at a herf. LOL

I tried to be as friendly and matter of fact as I could but they had only read about people like me. LMAO!
Screw 'em. I grew up with all sorts of professionals, high ranked military, embassy types & wasn't about to be intimidated by some pompous geeks who didn't know the difference between forks...

Well, you look at the case yourself. We know that talking heads are willing to talk about guns in church (arguing people should have the right to) based on previous experience. We know that talking heads are willing to talk about people having the rights to conceal carry within a day of a mass killing in a public area based on previous experience.

I was seriously curious which way they would go in this instance. We know that the anti-gun lobby is using this attack to support their agenda, I was curious whether the other side would try to mobilize. So far they haven't.

If they've done it before, what is stopping them now. You tell me. I provided one option, which I stated in no uncertain terms was speculation. I find it interesting that they are following my prediction so far.

What a croc-0-crap. Unless a job is over or your a civil guy and they need mechanical or electrical engineers to finish a project Bechtel never gets rid of anyone that does their job and makes them money. More than likely those 'white males' were also raciest xenophobic lazy bums that could not stand to have woman or foreigner as a boss or were so set in their old ways, no computers, calculators or CADD experience and refused to learn. They had it easy in the old days of cost plus jobs. When got things got lean and tough with more hard money jobs they couldn't cut the mustard and the hungry and competent immigrants could; compete or die.

That said, I never liked many of the folks that came out of the Gathersburg, MD office. Too close to the black hole of DC, they seemed to march to a different drummer than Houston, LA, or the home office in SF. I find most folks that dislike Bechtel are conspiracy nut jobs or 'wild eyed, never mind the facts' anti nuke nut jobs.

We rarely cure anything these days. It is possible that big pharma will develop some very expensive medications that can help ease the burden of outrage.

One day there will be 5K runs to find the cure but right now it would just be a bunch of people walking real fast, pulling their hair out, and shaking their fists at people.
