No fed money goes towards abortions. It's not legal. Any fed funds they receive must clearly be identified as to how it is spent and can not go towards abortions. That would break the law.

We audit that **** big time and any breach would be huge news. Therefor it is audited with hyper vigilance.

Just a fact.

I've been involved (conducted) in the audits looking for this in the states (fmap) but not specifically the audits of pp and the other outside entities (short of states giving money with fed ties to pp. we did look for and not find that). I did consult with the folks that do audit pp etc to learn some of how they do things and vice versa.

The only way it could happen is of the funds lose their identity which is somewhat possible but small potatoes and impossible to prove affirmative or negative.

Meh. Politics contains little facts anyway. If we cut abortion funding we could balance the budget.

We both know a beating heart is a crappy choice. First off, that means abortions are fine up to the stage of development when a heart is formed (don't remember what week that is); secondly a heart is just a muscle. Hell, you can transplant one from one person to another and "life" hasn't changed hands. You didn't lose your own life when your original heart was taken out.

The heart, while an awesome and necessary part of our body is no more the definition of life than your liver is.

A life is much more than cell activity, however it sure as hell isn't anything imbued in a clump of cells. there is no soul, nothing outside of the chemical and electrical reactions in the brain, which don't really have any stimuli to react to until they're born. and even then they dont really become useful or interesting until they're at least 22.

I agree. That is why IMHO life begins at conception (union of sperm & egg).

Experience has taught us all that no one's minds are ever changed on this topic through rational, nuanced in-person conversations... so I think an inflammatory cbid forum thread is definitely right out).

However, I've never argued that a soul exists. I have never in my life, even as a small child, believed in the existence of a soul. In fact, I find the accusation that I would even consider a soul to be a component of an argument to be possibly the most insulting thing you've ever said to me.

You have to admit that most of the time when people insist on removing the rights of a pregnant woman they are just pushing their religious agenda.

‘Believing’ that a fertilized egg is a person isn’t reasonable. It is not science, it is superstition. Hell, some will even tell you that condoms are ‘against the will of God’.

This will never change – someone always ‘knows the mind of God’ well enough to inflict there will on others. And they will always have followers eager to light the torches. “Because fanaticism and ignorance is forever busy, and needs feeding”.
