Bain-owned Sensata Charged with Labor Violations for Threatening, Retaliating Against Employees

NLRB Charges Filed as Company Threatens to Shut Down Plant Early if Protests Continue

Freeport, IL – Unfair labor practice charges against Sensata Technologies were filed with the
National Labor Relations Board this morning after the Bain-owned company threatened to shut
their Freeport plant down immediately if its employees continued to organize to stop the
outsourcing of their jobs to China.

The Sensata Police to relay a message to employees that they would close the
factory earlier than planned if employees continued to protest at the plant. The plant
is scheduled to be shut down in December, with the jobs and equipment shipped to a
new plant in China.

“Not only are they shipping our jobs to China, they are also trying to take away our
rights as American workers,” said Joanne Penniston. “We are not going to be intimidated.
We are going to stand up for our rights and our jobs.”

Nine people have been arrested for protesting at the plant so far, and the protests show
no sign of slowing down. Rev. Jesse Jackson will be joined by religious and labor leaders for
another protest at the plant later today.

Two charges were filed with the NLRB today. The first charge was for “increasing security
and announcing a new policy, or a previously unenforced policy, prohibiting off-duty employees
from entering work areas at non-work times, in response to and in retaliation for employees
engaging in protected concerted activity,” while the second charge was for threatening to
shut the plant down.

The charges come after the Sensata plant in Freeport had been shut down for the weekend
in the face of growing protests and national attention. MSNBC’s The Ed Show broadcasted live
from the Bainport camp across from the plant on Friday night in front of a crowd of hundreds,
while CNN reported live from the camp three times last week.

Sensata has emerged as a flashpoint in the controversy over Mitt Romney’s ties to China
this fall. Sensata workers have pleaded publicly with Romney to help save their jobs from
being outsourced to China. Not only does Romney stand to profit from the outsourcing of
these jobs through the stock he still owns in the company, his 2011 tax returns show that
he got a huge tax break by moving Sensata stock to a charity organization he controls—
and that he continues to profit from Bain’s offshore holdings and tax avoidance strategies.

Three community supporters were arrested earlier in the month for blocking trucks from
removing equipment that was on its way to China. Six were arrested as the Sensata workers
tried to deliver a petition to the plant manager last week as part of their effort to win a full
and fair severance. Workers who have been at the plant for 20, 30 and even 40-plus years
are only getting 26 weeks’ pay as a severance from Bain-owned Sensata.

I suspect Obama will not give a damn once he's re-elected. In fact, rumor has it he plans on implementing additional world taxation by way of UN treaties. He'll bring "arrogant America" down to everyone's eye level one way or another.

I have several, adjunct, long-term business ventures which we will feverishly launch in 2013. Hopefully they will provide some relief. If not, back to the drawing board.
I fear that most folks in non-government jobs don't have that option. Food stamps, welfare, and/or unemployment will be their golden parachute.

I know about China. I know how the country rips off American brands and ships unsafe products with false labels.
I know how the trade deficit is virtually unavoidable, yet could be pushed closer towards a balance with the right laws.
I sell TO China. I ship my product to the Chinese division of an American owned company that moved production to mainland China because the regulations in our country were much too restrictive.
It's a problem with the system, and only one candidate wants to address the problem. The incumbent feels that our policies with China are sufficient because their currency has grown 11%. The challenger wants to flex our muscles a bit more and stop the tail from wagging the dog.

You see the problems clearly. You just don't know who to blame and your partisan viewpoints cloud your judgment.
Shame on Romney for orchestrating a plant relocation to China. But the blame is on the system, not those who choose to stay competitive simply by playing the game by the rules.

Of course, it's still OK to hate Romney for his religion and his magic underwear. Maybe you should stick to that.

The Mormon religion does not have an anti-american agenda, which makes the religion a true non-factor.

Anyway, the whole thing started with a bad acid trip in New York State by Smith, not Brigham Young, (musta been the brown acid at Woodstock LSD/LDS hmmm) and the hallucination revealed that a set of hidden golden tablets, like a new set of 10 commandments or New New Testament or something, was buried somewhere in America (AKA the New Promised Land) for these new new Children of God to find and spread the word telling everyone...EVERYONE, that they were wrong and the NEW Word was out. I assume they found the buried treasure and called it The Book of Mormon. Unfortunately, they thought the St. Louis area was the promised land, but they got the snot beat out of 'em there...a new hallucination said to go to Salt Lake area cuz NO ONE lived there. Wrong Saint I reckon. Peace at last.

So we have the Old Testament (I call it The Prequel, obviously us Jews think God never needed a do-over) then the New Testament, then The Qoran (sp?) and then The Book of Morman. If I missed any of God's reissues, I'm sure they'll be out in paperback soon, or they never made the Times Best Seller List.

Ron, I was sincerely trying to be funny about your uncle and Mormons and multiple wives, guess I failed. I have personally known one Mormon (he had already left the Church of LDS) and he was as nice a person as I've ever known. Just finally decided they did not have the answer. Plus Danny Ainge is a Mormon and my SIL works for the Celts and says Ainge is a great guy too. No insult intended, just bad humor I guess. But my Mormon story may actually be pretty close to accurate, I hate googling and went totally off memory...dangerous for me to do!
