Cigarbid requests photo ID for purchase??

OK, so I made about four purchases on cigarbid last week. Today I got a voice message from their customer service that said in order to complete the processing of my orders and ship my items, their ''new'' policies required me to fax or email them a copy of my photo ID. Excuse me, but WTF??

Has anyone else ever heard of this from them? I've never been asked for photo ID for an Internet purchase before, and I've bought and sold on eBay for years. I'm 55 years old and provided a valid credit card for the charges. I'd rather cancel the order s than take a chance with identity theft.

Well that response was of no help at all, but if it makes you feel good, congratulations.

I registered about five months ago, and there was no similar question at that time.

As previously suggested, call Trish.

If they insist, suggest telling them you will _mail_ a photocopy to them.

All sorts of reasons they might have a question and it be unrelated to you, even if not routinely asked of purchasers. Previous problems from a similar address, or perhaps a former tenant at your address, etc I'm sure there are probably more.

the way things go today on various bullhockey and legalities, employees might have strict instruction to not disclose the actual reason.

Sheesh, what would this crop of n00bs think if they had popped in right in the middle of some of the DMV/Taps/GAE flame-a-thons of last summer?

At least ya didn't tell him the answer was on the Thong-i-nator thread, or insult him for eating waffles.

Before I would give a copy of a ID to anyone I would call and ask first. Call CS ask for Trish get the facts and inquire about Platinum membership once you get that you'll be fine and the perks are cool too.

Its possible they just need a signature on file. Especially if it is a Mastercard. Mastercard is a PIA.

Are minority cbidders exempt from producing a photo I.D. ?

if so, Cbid has disenfranchised them,,,
