"I do not remember my high school graduation speaker," says Obama, first drawing chuckles by saying he was here to practice for his oldest daughter's graduation in two years. "I have no idea who it was. I was thinking about the party after graduation. I don't remember the party either. I'm telling you the truth here."
-- President B. Obama addressing the 2014 graduates at Worcester Technical High School

Geee… do you really think is a good idea to for the Prez reflect back on his graduation party and subsequent blackout during his speech at a high school graduation?

He loves him some celebrity, and the "stand up" routine has gone beyond below the office he resides in.

To be fair, what did he say in the rest of his speech?

Maybe he was setting a table to say; "don't do what I did"?

No that wasn’t the premise. He followed those remarks with.

"You will remember the speaker of this graduation because the Secret Service is around, not because anything I said was inspiring."

Other stuff he went into was standard graduation speech stuff: take your education and use it to build a stronger America, you are our future, this is just the beginning of your long journey in life, Repubs are to blame for the college loan payback bill not being passed… stuff like that.

Meh... I don't remember my graduation speaker. And I don't remember doing anything during the party either...

doesn't have anything to do with drinking/drugs... I didn't do any back then. Simply because it's a long time ago, and while it may seem like an important event in your life when you're 18, by the time you're elected President of the USA, there's been a whole series of more important life events which have overshadowed a highschool graduation and party.

Well let's make it about you.
Do you remember who your speaker for HS graduation was? Do you remember what you did the night of graduation?

No and Yes.

I don't remember the speaker.
I do remember leaving the third graduation party of the day due to excruciating pain that turned out to be a hernia.

Now, I could tell you a story about a beautiful nurse washing and shaving my package, but I don't recall what he looked like.

So, if you were POTUS and in his place.. your speech would go something like:

"I do not remember my high school graduation speaker, I have no idea who it was. I was thinking about the party after graduation. I don't remember the first two parties either, but I remember leaving the third to meet up with a man who would eventually fondle and shave my nuts. I'm telling you the truth here."

.... well, that sounds like it would make a better speech. Probably have a life lesson in the end about people remembering when their balls get grabbed and stuff.

I've seen male nurses...I don't think I'd ever call one of them "beautiful"...and I sure as hell wouldn't let one shave me below the belt!

Then again...I don't have a VIP pass to The Honeypot!

Victor might be incommunicado for a bit while he continues to daydream about shaving my nuts.

But the shaving was all on the northern forest area. The undercarriage was left au natural.

Made me look prepubescent.
Took a month before it was safe to go back to church...

Do I need to use one of Drafters emoticons to let you know when something is in jest?

But regardless of that, I truly did NOT say he was beautiful.
I used plain old english and said I didn't remember.

I think you’re missing the point there Victor. It’s not about whether you remember the speaker or what they said or the party afterwards. I’m sure a large majority of people fall into that category.

I’m not naïve enough to not know what goes on at graduation parties. I just think its kinda bad form for the Prez or any speaker to reminisce about partying in front of a graduating class – a High School graduation class nonetheless.

Sure, he didn’t come right out and say “Dude… I got totally blasted at my graduation party” but he sure insinuated it.

I suppose he insinuated it. My point was I didn't remember anything about the party and it didn't involve alcohol either. I guess I was saying it is possible he wasn't drinking, and simply didn't remember...

... it's definitely a tone-deaf speech. His words insinuate underage drinking (whether he means it or not). I just get a "he's trying to be hip and cool in front of the kids" vibe from it. Dumb, but reasonably harmless, the kids were probably not listening anyway.

What if he said "I don't remember driving home from my graduation party"?

His words have impact. These are high school kids and they probably ARE listening. because he's the POTUS. And because these misguided words of wisdom came at the beginning of his speech.

Of course he isn't urging the kids to drink. His intent is to be "cool".
But how sad is he, that even after 6 years in the highest post in the land, he feels compelled to be cool rather than be responsible.

Old common used line in graduation speeches. It's not original and pretty tired actually. There are folks that study these speeches and this is near the top or at the top of most used. it's just never been criticized before.

I was listening to a compilation of graduation speeches shortly before my daughters graduation. they had a story about them on the radio. This line was in there several times and they commented on how tried and true it was. It was one of about 4 themes that occurred regularly.

It's used to put the emphasis on the graduates rather than the speaker, as a psudo funny ice breaker, as a way of saying I was nervous but... etc. It's so common its stale.

you want uncool?

"I must admit.. I was nervous about what I would say here today, and then I began to think back to my own graduation from college, 21 years ago. And I realized… I have absolutely no memory of actually graduating college. I mean, I know I did, because I’m constantly hounded by the alumni association, which starting tomorrow, you will be as well… but if you gave me free catfish poboys at Domelise's for the rest of my life, I couldn’t tell you what happened at my commencement. And it’s not just that I don’t remember what the speaker said, I don’t even remember who the speaker was. So I’m not nervous anymore.. cause you’re not going to remember a damn thing I say. you’re going to wake up tomorrow.. in your own bed, or someone else’s…if you’re lucky. Hey you’re not going to see most of these people ever again, so why not go for it? Your parents have to go to sleep at some point. Anyway, you’re going to wake up tomorrow, and today will be a blur. You’re parents will remember because lets face it, they’ve paid a lot of money to finally see this day, so they want to enjoy every second."

here is one from everyones favorite manbearpig

"“In preparing my remarks, in all seriousness I tried very hard to remember who spoke at my commencement in 1969. I have no idea. Unless I’ve just tricked you into remembering, my bet is that 30 years from now you won’t have any idea what was said here, but you will remember the parties tonight. You will remember your families being here, you will remember all the hard work that got you to this point and you’ll remember how you felt. And I hope you feel great, because this is a remarkable achievement that we are honoring here today.”

A. College graduation would be different. College grads are no longer kids.
B. Let's face it: These kids WILL remember their commencement speaker.

I'm not saying these kids will suddenly feel compelled to do funnels of malt liquor.
I'm just saying that it's sad when a president needs to resort to such imbecile tactics.

B. See manbearpigs

Outrage?
You're always looking for outrage when somebody says something negative about Obama.

Let me repeat my point:

Is any high school commencement speech actually inspiring? I don't remember any of the speeches from my high school graduation either. They are all filled with cliché and overused BS. All I was concerned with was moving on from high school.

I don't give a rats ass about obama. I just like poking at inconsistency, false outrage and hypocracy especially when folks act holier than thou

Obama is awful. Obamacare is a hot mess, bailout, tarp etc. effed up. He never should have entered the tavon martin discussion. etc..... he sucks.

That's why is is amusing to watch folks grab on to false or fringe subjects and become outraged. There are too many real ones to dilute it with nonsense (birthers etc).

+1 It is all of this white noise that is coming from the Republicans that will once again cause them to lose to the Democrats or the Tea Party. fog

Keep it up and F-N Clinton will be in the Whitehouse (and then we will be right and truly screwed). Brick wall
