I'd pay the rent I pay for the space I live in even without the opportunity to kick the homeless. That's just a perk.

Yeah and yours is in a city FULL of deviants where YOU fit in nicely.....and the WHOLE scene is WORTHLESS to MOST Americans unless they're looking for a World Fair kind of setting every day!!!!!

And again MOST wouldn't pay ANY of their hard earned income for the opportunity to live in that chit hole of a freak show....In A BOX d'oh! But hey, by all means enjoy Your Box

You fighting a homeless dude over a dog, to live in a 400 sq ft apartment in a shitty neighborhood??? WTF?!?! That's just beyond stupid.
By bathrooms offer more space. I have a refrigerator box you can have if you want to add an addition to your dwelling.

Move to a better neighborhood.

It was more pointing out the irony of a 400 sq/ft apartment.

When I lived in Yonkers I knew city dwellers that could not fathom a better place to live. Even though their daily life was looking a garbage and smelling other people's farts. Then they would tell me they were saving for a trip to Florida.....

Sometimes irony can be pretty ironic.

Actually I live in the burbs. And I would guess that the mental image of it puts you right off your vente mocha latte. But everybody is different. And it not like I can just walk down stairs and get a hot bagel from the deli below me that faces the street.

I remember a while back you writting that you would spend over $150 on a pair of jeans for your gf or even yourself. Admittedly, I just didn't get it. But now it occurs to me; hell, how big can your closet be?

Say, have you ever visited Florida?

If most people don't want to live there you would think the prices would be low. Capitalism and stuff.

Hehe. The advantage of a city life is that wages scale with cost of living as well. But cost of living is only a percentage of your expenses... Essentially the remaining percentage is usually significantly larger after your rent is taken out. It's a perk. That and being able to grab great tacos across the street, excellent indian food a half a block away, excellent thai food 2.5 blocks away and great pho 3 blocks away. I've got a wide range of bars to drink at all within 4 blocks... anything from dive bars to high-end cocktail bars... anything beyond that is a very short uber ride away.

I used to have a 1000 sq ft condo in Madison many years ago... I had a completely empty room I threw boxes in. It was a waste of space for me. I simply don't collect crap like other people seem to like to. What would I do with one of those 3000 sq foot mc mansions in the burbs? Stare at the empty rooms? It isn't how I want to live my life.

I think I've come to the only logical conclusion. You're a communist.

Seriously. If I choose to spend my hard earned money on something I find value in (rent and/or property in a city) that's my business. I get zero value from living in whatever suburb you live in.... if I get zero value from it, it doesn't matter how cheap the rent is, or how cheap the property is, I'm still spending more than I'm getting in value. That's capitalism.

You seem to want to be able to tell me what I should value and what I should spend my money on. Whatever komrade, enjoy pooping in your large bathroom...?

The internet can be a confusing place. Sometimes it's hard to decide if someone is being serious and simply doesn't understand math, or if they're just being funny.

But honestly Vic, you've stated that you pay rent to live in a tiny space surrounded by homeless freaks who beat your rat-dog.
You kinda walked into it.

And given the relative space perception out there, you probably walked right back out of it before you had time to scratch TW's elbow and paint your neighbors wall yellow.

I like living very close to the city so I totally understand why Victor loves being in San Francisco. For us, it was just a healthier way to raise our family. As it turns out, the burbs around Boston offer all of the stuff Victor cited, great selection of excellent ethnic foods, proximity to a slew of cultural and arts offerings, plus the attraction of being able to access the city in minutes.

For some, wide open spaces, miles between neighbors, farm land or deep woods...just not for me.

That's why they make chocolate AND vanilla folks. But good pho...heaven!

Heheh... Contrary to popular belief I actually do like vag...

Frank... I understand your desire to be "within minutes drive"... And for some that works great. For me, I don't have kids or want them, I'll never need the space those things require. And I walked to a cigar bar where I can now drink and smoke to my heart's content (a tasty por larranaga) and then walk home... With no concerns about driving.

After this, the gf and I will probably take a cab to a nice restaurant, and later walk to the movie theater. It's the way I want to live...

Was actually just looking at condos a little uphill of our location (go 3 blocks uphill and the homeless thin out... They're lazy.).. It's generally 900$/sq foot cost, plus condo fees and another 300$/month parking... I'm sure I'll eventually pull the trigger on one of these places. Nothing too big, because I don't want to spend too much, but I'll likely end up paying $700k+ for a condo. Maybe 800k if I get a 2br.

Everyone spends money on what they value.

Incidentally, does anyone else see the irony in people criticizing someone for " wasting money" on living where they choose on a site where people are lauded for spending thousands on a product they ultimately just burn?

Sounds like you may not be the raging Lib I suspected you are. If you were you would have blamed the dog for provoking the Homeless into his action because the pup has four legs and the HL dude only 2 which is obviously unfair.

As someone who is from the N. Cal area I can only say the people are what ruin what could be the most beautiful city in the world. You won't find a big city with better potential to be something special until unfortunately you add in the 90% douche bag humans (if you can call them that) that call that place home and you get what you get.

I've been in the "pro kicking the homeless" camp for a long time. The vast majority of them are filthy peasants. At least Jewel was trying to succeed when she lived in her car.

Well I'll hand it to you, you really put a smile face on the small apartment gig.

Any thoughts on living in a van?
Say, down by a river?

Jk

Just get some bikers to stop by. They will start shooting before the sharks hit the ground. Of course if they are Ganges sharks you have no worries other than dead bikers.
