Nothing like " higher education " to make some fools believe they can strip anyone who doesn't agree with them of their 1st Amendment right. If my kid attended this school and they didn't fire every professor or administrator who participated in this assault on his Rights...they'd get pulled in a heartbeat and I'd get a class action lawsuit going with other like minded parents.

" Hey!!! .....I need some muscle over here!!!! What a liberal C*nt

Tim Tai is my hero.

Mobs can convert somewhat ignorant people into the truly stupid.

What was the context? What was my new hero trying to cover anyway? And why were they so adamant about prohibiting the coverage? Did someone say something about 'respecting privacy'? At a public demonstration outside at a public institution????? Craziness abounds.

The star at the end of that vid is a prized element of their professorial staff, no doubt.

From her page above:
Her research interests center on popular culture texts and audiences, particularly texts and audiences disdained in mainstream culture. Her work in this area is guided by audience studies, theories of gender and sexuality, and media literacy. Current research projects involve 50 Shades of Grey readers, the impact of social media in fans’ relationship with Lady Gaga, masculinity and male fans, messages about class and food in reality television programming.....

You gotta be kidding...maybe its a joke? Or, unfortunately, maybe it isn't

It's getting worse, according to multiple news sources the University of Missouri police sent students an email asking to report hateful and hurtful speech so the university can take disciplinary action.

Yes, the university has rules, but infringing on freedom of speech should not be one of them.

#MillionStudentMarch

We are high school, college, and graduate students, recent graduates, campus workers, former students, parents, and grandparents uniting in a day of action on November 12, 2015 to demand tuition-free public college, cancellation of all student debt, and a $15 minimum wage for all campus workers.

Education should be free. The United States is the richest country in the world, yet students have to take on crippling debt in order to get a college education. The average college graduate of the Class of 2015 has over $35,000 in debt. More than 40 million Americans share a total of $1.2 trillion in student debt and 58 percent of that is held by the poorest 25 percent of Americans.

This is clearly an urgent crisis, but establishment politicians from both parties are failing to take action. In 2013, Congress passed legislation that doubled the interest rates for federal student loans. Students face rising tuition costs, mounting debt, and a lack of good-paying jobs when they graduate. Further, while top administrators take home six and seven figure salaries, many campus workers are paid poverty wages and are forced to rely on federal and local assistance.

#MillionStudentMarch will be a day of local actions. From coast to coast, students, current and former, are organizing rallies and marches on college campuses and high schools. We are people of all colors, genders, and sexual orientation, and we are united to fight for education as a human right. Together, we can build an independent movement capable of winning tuition-free public college, a cancellation of all student debt, and a $15/hr minimum wage for all campus workers!

Thanks, Paul. I now know a bit more the events leading up to now.

I still don't understand how a couple hateful slurs - from what may or may not have even MU students got to boycots, resignations, threatened football game shutdown and hunger strike. I'm not, for a second, suggesting there might not be a problem with racial climate in Columbia, MO. I have no clue about that. But, I do not fully comprehend how they end up with a (white) liberal arts professor of all things Lady Gaga trying to suppress the press coverage? And, to me, it seems as though the U prez and chancellors' actions or inaction over recent weeks were hardly cause for removal.

Everything that is wrong with our public education system all in one video.

grown children who have earned nothing higher than "participation" at any point in their life are now trying to create an outrage that is weaker than the Starbucks red devil cup.

Arguing about a perceived racist culture, proven by a drive-by slur and a swastika laden with corn and refried beans.

Spearheaded by a leftist professor who was too ugly to go to prom and too scared to make a difference in her own life. So she teaches journalism classes about reality TV and is determined to live vicariously through her students.

The problem occurred when their little tea party met no opposition. Nobody is against their message of racial equality. the protest was nothing more than a book club meeting for the motivationally challenged.
So they decided to keep out the dreaded press.
Damn those reporters! Always trying to put an evil slant on racial issues.
They didn't hug BLM long enough, so now these crusaders will right that wrong by kicking them and their feeble first amendment out on their arse.

F*cking pathetic.

Apparently there was a pick-up that drove by the campus too. It was displaying a Confederate Flag. Guess the sight of it sent everyone running for cover in fear.

Nothing was gonna happen until the Black UM football players said they were going to boycott if the University President, who had campus PD throw the protesters off campus a couple of days ago, didn't resign. New wrinkle in civil rights movements: leveraging the power of the pocketbook against those who hold the pocketbook...

When I was in school our protests went nowhere and expulsion was a constant threat. If we only had a better football team.

This is the best part.
The football team threatened to boycott for their racial concerns.

I don't know for sure, but what percentage of that team is black?
How does that percentage compare to the student population at Mizzou and how does it compare to the nation as a whole?
How many of those players are on scholarship? Again, compare the numbers to the student body in general.

People want forced racial equality?
Fine.
Make certain that the professor ratio is about 13% black, 72% white and 15% "other".
Then do the same for the upper level administrators and executives.

Then do it for the football team.

“I’m walking out today because I think it’s important to show this isn’t something that’s happening on one campus, and it isn’t a movement that can be stopped,” said Anna George, a student at Smith. “And I know that racism does exist at Smith since it’s predominantly a white campus.”

Kimberly Zhang, a sophomore at Smith, said racism occurs every day for people of color, which is why it’s important to her to stand up and draw attention to the issue.

“It is so upsetting that even, today, we would have to deal with this sort of archaic behavior,” she said. “Today, I’m standing with all my fellow students of color to tell the world that racism is still existent, everyday occurrence and it’s not just something that media records on a loop.”

Let’s see…. You attend a college that excludes nearly half the population and you have an issue with discrimination?

Are we sure we want to designate U Missouri as "higher" learning? Can we say institution of "middling to lower learning"

I mean... It's a state school in Missouri...

If you want an interesting, and similar case at an institute of higher learning check out the story about Yale students protesting a couple professors because they told them they were old enough to decide what was appropriate for a Halloween costume.

I would call it unacceptable a nd dangerous. What is really being protested? As far as I have read a single drunk uttering racial slurs and 1 swastika. How does this post a danger to anyone? Yet the university is willing to eliminate freedom of speech. So it is speech and symbology that is offensive, so what? Freedom of speech is protected by the first amendment. Denying freedom of speech is a dangerous slippery slope that cannot be tolerated.

Back in my college days, a code for Halloween costumes from administrators would have resulted in the opposite action.....in the name of anti establishmentism.

We did group theme costumes.... once went as Terrorists with machine guns....I think Sandanistas...another time we dressed as the Reagan Youth with swastika shaped R's on armbands...and I can't forget being Caesar Chavez and his grape pickers.
