pretty easy to see this was a brewing catastrophe...even Trump believed it, as far back as late January 2020, and his response was that he "didn't want to panic everybody" ...

all he did was convince his peeps, who always believe his lies, that this was just the flu and would go away soon...so started the politicalization of a pandemic response that continues to this day, where the US is the only educated, advanced western democracy with the sky high infection and death rates that are even worse than many backwards nations (places Trump mockingly calls sh...)....and no real strategy to minimize its impact on the American people...

Trump's focus has always been to ignore the potential harmful impact on individuals while prioritizing political decisions to help businesses...the cure can't be worse than the disease...and the cons went all in..... without realizing that those countries that maximized containment efforts from the start suffered much less economic adversity, are now mostly open for business and are further along the road to recovery...

and we STILL have no real working plan to control the spread, despite historical evidence that some basic steps, which the public health experts have been advocating, have succeeded in other parts of the world...MAGA

Oh I dunno... maybe for the same reason Trump mentioned a top secret nuclear weapons program to a reporter on the record ON TAPE? For the giggles? It's not like it was an accidental slip.... 18 recorded calls.

You're right..... under 1000 dead isn't worth mentioning. Reminds me of an excerpt from something I read.

To sate the lust of power; more horrid still,
The foulest stain and scandal of our nature
Became its boast — One Murder made a Villain,
Millions a Hero. — Princes were privileg’d
To kill, and numbers sanctified the crime.
Ah! why will Kings forget that they are Men?

I'm not amazed at all. I just wanna see how the spin doctors HERE will spin it. If they dare touch it at all.

Go on. Touch it. I dare ya!

Not the first time I've said or fallen for that.

actually, there may have been a thousand dead when he got the details. People had covid before we even knew it was here...or rather before we were told it was here.
But his knee jerk reaction was to keep the economy running for reelection.

lots of people were excited about the opportunity to get a POTUS who wasn't a career politician, and even more excited that it was from the world of business.
And I agree that there are many enlightened business people who could probably navigate the crises that affect their customers both domestic and international and transfer that experience to leading the most powerful nation on Earth

But...

What most of Trump's giddy supporters either were unaware of or just wished away was that he never showed this type of concern or good will toward his customers or hired help/contractors in his decades in business. The customer was never right. The only concern was his personal bottom line.

Business leaders may in fact be good Presidents, but not all of them, not the cheaters for sure.

Forgot to mention, we, the people of the USA, are now the customers.

"Stupid is as stupid does".Trump stepped into his own quicksand on this one. Why would any president allow them-self to be interviewed and recorded by a reporter known for taking down at least one past president? Better yet, why would his handlers permit this? Or, did Trump just go off of a hunch that it would turn out OK and knowingly disregard their advice?

my take: Trump is such an arrogant con-man, he prolly believed that he could draw the wool over Woodward's eyes...he's been getting away with contradictory statements, out-right lies and distortions from the very moment he became a POTUS candidate, that he never thought that any inconsistencies would hurt him, at least among the peeps that support him...and the sad part is....they won't...

look at who's outraged...

look at who's yawning...

over this POTUS's reckless disregard for the safety of the American people...

Are you aware that Trump called Woodward unscheduled and out of the blue? Bob Woodward didn't call Trump to get a book, Trump called Woodward to get a book and he got one. It's nice to see people get what they want now and again. RollEyes

amazement is not an accurate descriptor here...this is not the run-of-the-mill politician lying, like Trump does dozens of times on a daily basis...that is amazing...

but this is different...when a POTUS lies .... and the lies result in American citizens dying unnecessarily, that sort of lie falls into a whole different category...

I'm positive had a Dem POTUS, say Obama or either Clinton, said everything Trump has been recorded saying by Woodward, the GOP would be clamoring for his resignation...and I would like to believe that enough clear thinking Dems would be joining them were that the case...

talk about "hung by his own petard"...

not sure if he's gonna lose any GOP votes, though...most of the cons think it's funny how easily libs get outraged...a GOP Sen., Kennedy of LA, called this just another "gotcha" book...I think he's one of the guys who tested positive a few months ago, so he's giving Trump a pass...

maybe some independents who've lost some friends or relatives to COVID may decide to stay home on election day, or vote for Biden...otherwise, just another drama filled day in the life of our reality TV game-show host POTUS

Robert, my apologies, my wording was incorrect.

In United States law, depraved-heart murder, also known as depraved-indifference murder, is a type of murder where an individual acts with a "depraved indifference" to human life and where such act results in a death, despite that individual not explicitly intending to kill.

What was the last one? Suckers and Losers? Didn’t stick. Next. The swamp will stop at nothing to destroy Trump. We’ve sat here and watched the previous administration try to orchestrate a coup, we did impeachment, we did Covid, we have the threat of violence in the streets...

It’s not really different. I heard it’s behavior is kinda vanilla. If it is what gets Trump out of office, any deaths were worth it.

You're wrong HD...not any deaths, but how many deaths would've been deemed unavoidable...

a death rate similar to what the rest of the advanced world has experienced, along with the lower numbers of infected citizens, and a more robust testing and tracing program. and a federal plan to support medical care workers and facilities and provide health care to COVID19 patients across the US would've given Trump a huge step up towards his re-election...

Trump just had to be AVERAGE to win re-election...but he didn't even try...

It doesn’t matter how many deaths would have been deemed unavoidable. One death is too much and Trump should have done better. There should have been more of everything. The Democrats would have provided more of everything. If the Democrats were in charge they would have done better. That’s the story and the entire election.

The ‘Rona has been an absolute gift from the gods to the Democrats. Trump was sailing to an easy re-election due to the economy being so strong and the ‘Rona killed Americans and killed the economy. It was perfect. Now the Democrats are making a strong bid to usher in a one party nation purely on the story that they would have handled the ‘Rona better.

Those who died from the ‘Rona are martyrs in the cause to remove Trump. Sometimes you have to break a few eggs.

he missed an opportunity to show true leadership during a crisis...and he exposed himself as the con-man fraud he's been his entire adult life...he could not even muster a basic plan

his actual pandemic plan? hoping and wishing it'll magically go away, don't pay any attention to the public health experts, masks are silly and weak, liberty and freedom for the markets, re-open ASAP, hydroxychloroquine, bleach and UV lights are cures, bash libs and fake media because we got this under control...that was all he got

instead of a unifiying plan to mobilize the resources of the fed to support the states, he flailed and wailed and then decided he was out, telling us the pandemic is not his responsibility, but that of the governors and mayors...

THAT will be his measuring stick on election day...

and forget a gift to Dems.
any number of GOP primary contenders would have had the humanity to care more about us than their own bottom line, or their own re-election, which may have gone hand in hand.

the question is not how many deaths would be deemed unavoidable, it's now known that the real question is how many were avoidable. We all know there would have been many in any case, and it could have played out that Trump could have been held without any blame.

Fauci and Blinky are owed public apologies.
