#2 - Tonight I smoked Plata o Plomo by Sinistro. It was an LCA release last April(ish), but I never got around to smoking it. Nice smoke, very good, recommended.

Agreed

^I would like to try this. I usually put un-frozen cigars in the desktop to segregate them - stuff I get at the shpo or things I don't want to wait on until they come back from the deep freeze. I read somewhere that it takes a couple of weeks for a cigar to recover from being frozen. Seems more like a couple of months to me.

#20 - Black Works Studio Intergalactic from Marcus. Stellar! (See what I did there? Do you get it? Do you get it?)BigGrin
Thanks Marcus!

#21 - Foundry Time Flies romusto from SOB. This was exceptional, IMO. It had that creamy, bready flavor that I love so much. It looked like it had a little age on it judging from the cello. Definitely will make the list of top LeeBot cigars of 2023, no matter what happens for the rest of the year.

#22 - Isabela romusto from Jake. The draw was a little too stiff for a while. It took me some time to work it open, and sure enough there was a stem in the way. Took that out and it was good to go.

Well you could pre smoke it for quality control purposes.

Happy that one was good to you Lee. I believe that was a late '20 purchase. Clearly I was slacking along the line in my labeling. I try, but time flies

Seems that cigar is unavailable. One that’s popping in my mind with the profile you’re explaining is the man o war (the expensive one that’s also discontinued). Can’t find either one.

I have a toro or two of the Armada left. Think I will break one out soon.

#23 - Stolen Throne Call to Arms from Stogie. Thanks Stogie. This was another great cigar. The first puff landed in the strike zone and it stayed there. Really good. Not the bready creamy thing, but more of a honey walnut, rich tobacco flavor. Very nice.

#24 - PDR A.Flores 1975 Legacy Serie Privada Maduro romusto. Had some burn and draw issues, but they didn't ruin it. It had a heavy earthy flavor (aka dirt) and some cream. Good.

#25 - HVC Pan Calilente that I picked up from the box pass. It was fine, nothing wrong with it, but I think it came too soon after too many higher end cigars. I'm getting spoiled.

#26 - Tabacalera Diaz Delectados Ox Blood from Privada. This is one of those higher end cigars that spoils you. Really nice.

#27 - Black Works Studio Killer Bee from Marcus. Very good, thank you Marcus.

#28 - Diesel Whisky Row Sherry Cask from Stinger. This was another one from one of my PIB lists, and stinger hooked me up. It was good, but I think I liked the regular Whiskey Row that he sent better.

#29 – Florida Sun Grown Intensa toro from Jake. Thank you Jake
#30 – Foundation Olmec romusto from Stogie. Thank you Stogie
#31 – Viaje C-4 from Marcus. I thought the flavor of this cigar was exceptional, but unfortunately, the burn was not. Still really good though.

That’s it. A month of new cigars. Many of these were from the generous BOTL on this forum, and I appreciated every one that I smoked. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to try so many killer new cigars. ThumpUp

Something that I got from this, that I was in no way expecting, is that I think it helped improve my palate. It helped me identify profiles that I like, and it seemed to sharpen my ability to pay attention to the profile of a cigar. I would smoke each new cigar without any buildup or expectation. I wouldn’t read about it or anything. I’d just smoke it and see if I liked it and why. Then I might read a little about it as I was finishing. I would recommend an exercise like this. I am surprised that I got so much out of it.

I thought I would give a Top 3 Of the Month list, but that was impossible, so I changed to a Top 5. Nope. Top 6? No. The best I could do was squeeze it down to a Top 9, and that was a pain and required more work than I thought it would.
But, here is a shot at my Top 9, in the order in which I smoked them:

RoMa Craft Aquitaine Mode 5 (perfecto)
Plata o Plomo by Sinistro (lancero)
E.P. Carrillo Capa de Sol (romusto)
Illusione Haut 10 (romusto)
Black Works Studio Intergalactic (toro-ish)
Foundry Time Flies (romusto)
Stolen Throne Call to Arms (romusto)
Tabacalera Diaz Delectados Ox Blood (toro)
Viaje C-4 (a fat romusto)

To make it a nice even number, I will throw in as an honorable mention the Aging Room Rare Collection romusto that I smoked on New Year’s Eve before I started this. There are more honorable mentions, but you get the point.

I’m not sure what’s next. My “gonna cut down on what I buy” b.s. didn’t last at all. I think I’m gonna re-up that as a February resolution.

How are y'all doing with the resolutions? I assume the buying hiatuses have all gone well. Mine never got going. I thought I could at least go a month, but seems not.

Still smoking out of the desktop Jake?

Not good.
Got a box coming. That one stinking box will cost me probably an hour or two of pointless reshuffling trying to get it into my aging cooler.
I simply can’t start another cooler, or I’m doomed…

Lee basically wiped out the desktop. Maybe 20 left in there. Can’t decide on keeping it running or shutting Ol girl down. Wood is a pain. It’s more of a pain when it gets low on cigars.

I tell ya, we should do some sort of contest. But hmm, what / how? Think

Mebbe one of them, forgot what you call it but like those baby contests that are infrequently run.

POOL! Yah, that’s the term!

So okay, how’s this, We do a May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024 pool. Pick the day that Delta breaks his ironclad resolution. Ante is 2 cigars per pick, unlimited picks but only 1 person per day. Winner takes all. Or sumting li’ dat.

Of course we’ll need Al’s complicity in this (…I know, I know, we’re not doing anything illegal but it’s the best word I could come up with…). He has to honesty tell us when he buys a cigar and breaks his resolution. Could be a single from a B&M, a split or straight out purchase. Gifted, RAOK’d, PIB’d cigars don’t count. And not that Al would pick a day to announce his fall from grace so one of his buddies would win but to avoid any hint of collusion, might gotta keep the players and their days a secret - at least from him.

What you guys think?

Firming his resolve is good. Somebody has to win, even if it's delta by keeping his resolve. We're helping him.

Does Delta get the cigars id he holds steady?

First things first, I asked Al if he was game. Awaiting his response.

And yes, if Al goes coast-to-coast then he should win ALL of the cigars.

Details to be worked out pending Al's participation.

Mahalo Al!

Details of the contest are still being worked on but basically it'll be a 366 block pool from May 1, 2023 to April 30, 2024. Winner take all. IF (...and that's a BIG if...) Delta can stick to his ironclad resolution, then he gets everything.

What I'mma trying to figure out is the ante and what to do with it. One or two cigars per block? What kind / level of smokes? (certainly no AB, RP, Gurks, etc.) Maximum amount of guesses / blocks? Do we collect the cigars and then send them to the winner or everyone sends individually? Minimum time / trade cred / number of posts, etc. needed to be eligible to play? Cutoff date to enter or upcharge ante for later dates?

Suggestions / Comments welcomed but will figure this out in a day or two.
