Back on 1966 I bought a brand new Chevelle SS396/325 HP. Within a few weeks it was made into the 375 HP version of the motor. It was my every day car but was also my street racer & drag strip car. With some tweaking & some aftermarket parts (suspension, headers, slicks), I was running a consistent 12.7 seconds in the 1/4 miles at around 105 MPH. This was a pretty good time for those days.
Today I Cruz in my 1965 Corvette with 425 HP ( my avatar is my Vette motor) or my 55 Chevy with only 350 HP.

Had the '69 SS Chevelle 350HP all # match and now have the '65 Corvette coupe L79. Milano maroon, 4 speed all # match. It's faster than the Chevelle but I bet that big block is a blast. Coupe or roadster?

First off, nice car. Mine is also a coupe. Owned it for 39 years. It’s a mild custom car.,350 cid with a 4 speed. I just had it painted the 2022 Corvette caffeine metallic with pearl mixed in it. It has the wide racing stripe down the middle in ghost gold. The reason for the high horsepower out of the 350 motor is that it is bored out 0.30 & I hand built the motor with all high performance parts. I hope to get it back from the paint shop in about a month.

From the description I assumed yours was the BB 396. Small block and big HP. What's not to like?

I can understand that. The problem with that HP is that I have trouble not burning up the tires.
Funny story. My car club use to rent the local little airport for drag raceing open to all. We marked off the 1/4 mile, no slicks to bite & rip up the landing strip. A guy with a 68 Vette 427/390 HP was bragging about his Big Block & how fast it was. When he went to the line, the starter pulled me up next to him. Well after beating him by about 2 car lengths he never came back to the pits. Drove right out the exit. Also ran a 427/. 425hp Vette & lost by about a car. He drove around me on top end with the cubic inches. I love the car & have lots of fun with it.

Good thing for him you weren’t racing for pinks! Laugh
