The first one on the right knee was 13 years ago; the post op therapy was about 2 months, and then it was another month of exercises on my own before the artificial knee felt strong enough for long distance walking.
The pain now in the left knee is not constant, and doesn't impact my daily activities, movement or sleep, as the right one did years ago. It only hurts when I walk long distances (1+ miles). And I'm not swallowing large doses of NSAIDs to relieve pain, risking kidney and liver health, as I did before. So it doesn't feel as urgent...
Many moons ago, around ‘84 or ‘85, I was really into running but developed plantar fasciitis in both of my heels. Went to a noted sports orthopedic doctor and he quickly suggested cortisone shots. The 4 shots (…local and then the cortisone…) were quite painful but I toughed it out. But, gotta say, my heels felt soooo much better after that. Mebbe not the smartest thing but even played tennis the next day! But I was asked to play with Akio Morita (…co-founder of Sony…) so how could I say no?
I pretty much stayed away from any sports for a few weeks but stopped running for quite awhile and concentrated on tennis again. No hardcore 2-hour hitting sessions or 3 sets of singles but was glad to get back on the court again. Anyway, long post short, the shots and limited stress worked and glad it never got to the point where the ortho had to go in and scrape my heels.
