Back to work. Was leaving at my normal time wife said there's gonna be no traffic cuzza superb owl. There weren't many cars but I'm pretty sure everyone was drunk. Few cars, all driving about 25 tops. Still took 40 minutes to get here.

Had 12 nurses call off tonight to watch TV. Running dangerously short everywhere. This is so stupid. Happens every year but I'm usually off and get called in to help. Nobody came in to help tonight.

After the past few weeks my doubts about leaving have been lifted.

2 people put in their 2 weeks after hearing I was leaving. This is what happens when you put too much reliance into one person because "he can handle it"

Often times I have seen departures result in a contagious effect of more departures. I’ve always thought that with all these departures someone will get a clue. Never happens.

Never happens. I've stuck through several. In fact the only reason they hired me back in 09 was because of a mass exodus.

Just got home from a discouraging visit with my older sister, who has inoperable brain cancer...she's been non-responsive for the past week to ten days....

her caretakers say she's barely sipping liquids...doctor has put her on morphine and discontinued all her other meds...she has hung on for weeks beyond predictions...hope she is not in any pain and the end is merciful...

As others have said, sad news Delta. My heart goes out to you, your sister and your family. May your sister pass to the next level in peace. It's gotta be tough and a situation that we will all have to deal with eventually. I'm not looking forward to when those I love pass on. I'll likely be an emotional mess. Stay strong but take some time to reminisce and heal internally bur also remember the good times you had with her.

Took a day off today because we were supposed to get a bunch of snow today. Yesterday the weather folks were calling for up to a foot or 18" of heavy snow but now weather says we'll only get a few inches. I'm OK with that since it means less shoveling or snow blowing. Small flurries just started. Probably won't even need to fire up the snowblower but we'll see what happens. I have some computer work to do, some phone calls to make and maybe pull together some tax paperwork to file my taxes.

Partial lazy day, partial get some stuff done day. On a scale of 0-10 with 0 being nothing to do and 10 being chaos, I'll rank it at about a 6.

The Tax saga continues...

Got a transcript from the IRS for last year's taxes. They have no record of me filing last year.

Well... that's awful fcuking strange, since I DO have a record of those mother fcukers taking $607 out of my checking account last March. So SOMEBODY in that building got my return.

To be continued...

Wtf macs?

My Bucky score is a 1 today. Cigar, shower, nap. Then kitty litter box, chicken food/water, and trash to the curb. That's it for today. I do also need to open 2 cigar boxes and sharpie dates on them and put em in the humidor so maybe it's a 2/10.

Next few days will be a little busier getting ready for the drive to FL.

I have had three IRS sagas in business.

Inaccurate, over-reported income from another law firm law firm. Took me 9 months and $750 to get my accountant to straighten it out.

Both other times were instances where the IRS assumed my clients' money in my trust account was my earned income. It was not. Both times required me almost 40 hours of work to recreate my books, receipt by receipt, cancelled checks, bank statements and deposit slips.

What made it even more difficult is that the audits each came a few years after I had filed and I had to go back in years to get the right documentation. First time, I was .1% off from what was filed- they waived it.

The second tim ended up with filing an amended return to get an $18 refund I discovered I was entitled to (out of spite).

Might as well tell them you are a sovereign nation or that taxation is unconstitutional- and you refuse to pay. People actually write them antagonizing letters announcing these positions. They are idiots.

/IRS will claim a Tax Lien on everything you own and will eventually show up to seize your properties. And, that is just the beginning...

Went back to the tax office that did my return last year (on the base). They are going to resend it electronically and mail a copy. Told me to wait a month and try again.

SUCCESS!! Finally... went back to TurboTax site... reviewed everything and changed the status to "2022 return not processed by IRS yet".

Soooo... 2023 is now filed, and while 2022 was paid in full... the actual return is being sent in (again) electronically and by mail.

Rotten bastids.

We sold our second home in’22 and had a uuuug capitol gains on the taxes. About 5 months later the IRS sent a letter saving we owed another $18.90 with no explanation. Wasn’t about to dig it all back up so just paid it.

I appreciate all the kind sentiments, gentlemen. My sister (our family) is truly blessed to have the exceptional caregivers at the senior living facility she has been staying for the past year. They are caring and very compassionate people, who treat my sister and us like family. Although the hospice staff is good, the facility's 2 primary caregivers make a huge difference 24/7.

The facility is limited to 6 residents, so they have time to form definite bonds. We've seen two of her housemates pass this year and it was obvious that the caregivers were as emotionally upset as the family members. So danm is absolutely right, this is much better than dying in an ICU. They take pride in helping their residents extend their lives

I told the owner of the house, who is just as dedicated as her caregivers, that when it is my time to go, I want to die at her place. I think she took that as the compliment I intended.
